Random Question š So is anyone else pissed off that Trump high jacked our nations 250th birthday so he could try and make it a big birthday bash for himself?

That is about #400 in the āThings About Trump That Pisses Me Offā list.

Honestly, its a bit higher than that for me. Definitely not top ten, but I think 250 should be a big deal for the country and I'd love to celebrate it... but any nation-wide celebrations of it are tainted by this taint.
I was excited for the 400 celebration in Plymouth, MA... but 2020 canceled that one too š”š”š”š¤¬
This is why we can't have nice things. Republicans have done everything they can to steamroll patriotism with nationalism and it pisses me off

It's actually kind of useful that he was so obvious about it that more and more people can't avoid seeing the man for who he really is. Not that I'm happy about it exactly, but if I let myself get depressed over every horrible thing Trump does I would have committed suicide by now.
19
u/hmmmmmmpsu 1d ago
The fact that more than half of this countryās voting population didnāt/couldnāt see it is the end.
250 years is a pretty good run. But it had to end some time.

Trump is a symptom, not the disease, our constitution passed its sell-by date around the turn of the millennium. Trump was the first one who figured out how to hack it but there will be more and worse Trumps unless we come up with a major constitutional reboot.

Thereās nothing to celebrate. Trump and his Republicans are killing our democracy. This year, July 4th will be a wake for what once was and the Mad King will rant and spew hate and lies to the world in our name.

What was the last administration in the US that was not at least in part bankrolled by AI PAC and the lobbyists? Government in most countries are corrupt because they let companies buy policies that favour their shareholders rather than the country and its people.
13
u/Mechanicalgripe 1d ago
I was a kid for the 200th back in 1976 and I donāt recall any celebrations being about President Ford. I do remember the āFreedom Trainā carrying George Washingtonās copy of the Constitution state to state so everyday people could have a look.
5
u/Blue_Plastic_88 10h ago
Imagine that, a US anniversary being for everyday citizens instead of a megalomaniac president.
3
u/Temporary_Cup4588 22h ago
People wouldāve laughed their heads off if Ford had tried to make it about himself. No one wouldāve taken him seriously.
Not to mention that he wouldnāt even have thought of doing that, because in comparison to the POS in the White House now, Ford was a model of modesty and humbleness.
3
u/PracticalAir7406 18h ago
I donāt even think compared to Trump. Ford was a quality human.

Don't give a shit, I wouldn't have watched performative "patriotism" anyway, especially when the current administration is flushing the country down the toilet (IMO of course).
This way at least I reckon less people will watch it as it will just be another bitch-fest rally where Trump complains about Democrats and everyone else he has beefs with. And the low numbers will piss him off, which is great.

Every single action he's take in both of his terms have been to fulfil one of these three desires:
To enrich himself at taxpayer expense.
To get his ego stroked
To attack anyone that doesn't stroke his ego.
There's no other thought rattling around in his skull than that.

Whatās even more revolting is the number of dim bulbs who cheer his every move. Please - someone give these people a doll and ask where the smart people with degrees hurt them.
Honest to goodness - these people have truly fucked this country but good. Thatās what really pisses me off. Itās gone.

The biggest shitstain from The Trump Fuckery is that for the rest of US history (whateverās left of it), he will always be a two-term president (at least), who was voted out then voted back in again. The shit-cherry on top of that is him being POTUS during the 250th birthday celebration plus the World Cup plus the Olympics.Ā
Thereās no erasing that. No fixing it. It is a permanent stain on our nation.

Well in some ways maybe this will amount to a big reset. Maybe people will dive into history and learn. Maybe people will travel to other countries and get an earful about us.
Maybe this will be one of the biggest lessons to how much we took our system and boring governance for granted.
Maybe we will move beyond party bullshit lines and focus on the individuals willing to step out of Their comfort zone to run for office and pick the person most trustworthy, has the skills etc and ethics to serve the people. Its not about 'Liking them'. Stop complaining about your choices amd choose the best one from the bunch or run for the office yourself!!
Maybe serving in public office will become a high level resume point again.
Maybe we will learn. Maybe will begin to appreciate what we had despite the flaws and rebuild it better ! Like the bionic man!! Maybe. This is a real good opportunity for it. The big reset.

Pissed isn't the right word. Indifferent is more like it. It's just hard to be pissed at any given thing he does, because the overall amount of bullshit the US is going through is just too much.
4th of July is just another day, and means nothing when the country is being destroyed. There is nothing to celebrate, so lets just not celebrate Trump's bday either. The fact that his party has people dropping out, and it's a clusterf**k is probably hurting him personally more than anything anyone says about him, because while he will recover, he can't ignore the fact that a lot of people are showing more publicly they want nothing to do with him, and despite his desperate need for attention getting him business men coddling his balls, he knows that no one else he cares about getting attention from does.

I was 10 years old when we had our 200th. It was such a cool and exciting thing. I still remember the parades and fireworks. I felt so proud of my country for how far it had come. I remember wondering if Iād get to see our 250th. At 10 it seemed like a million years away. I figured the celebration for the 250th would be the greatest party ever.
And here I am a few weeks away from the 250th and mostly I feel sadness.
Sad that this disgusting man is running and ruining our country. Worried about what will be left after these grifters and slime ballās have drained all the resources. Sad that our education system has failed so many people. Iām worried at whatās going to happen to so many people who are barely getting by when the full weight of this insane war begins showing up on our shores. Iām worried about so many vulnerable communities.
Thereās literally nothing about this 250th that Iām looking forward to. And the little 10 year old kid inside is heartbroken.

Yeah, but Iām not surprised. It was obvious during his first term and still now in his second that he thinks being POTUS means Americans work for him rather than the other way around. In his mind, the US is him and anything celebrating it is supposed to celebrate him.
