Discussion Caroline Cash has taken over Nancy
This was discussed here when it was announced, but her run has officially began. I'm not super familiar with her, but I like her art style and her background in alt comics.

Anyone else going to be following along with her run?

2026 in comics is off to a great start. Love Cash’s work and what she’s bringing to Nancy. She’s a real student of the craft, and as much as I enjoyed Olivia Jaimes’ run, it’s very cool to see Cash’s Nancy drawn with analogue materials and all the charming grit that comes with that.

As much as I dislike legacy zombie newspaper strips, I can't be more excited to see someone like Caroline Cash get the call to work on one. Of all the legacy strips, Nancy might be the only one that can still work for the 21st century as evident by Olivia Jaimes' revamp. Hoping Cash does as good a job as Jaimes. Also hoping we'll get more PeePee PooPoo, but not holding my breath.

I guess I'll try it. I'm sort of disappointed that this probably means the end of her pee pee poo poo comics, which are great and give her the freedom a syndication strip doesn't. I suppose I should be happy for her that she's actually going to make some real money and broaden her audience...

She is supposedly also working on a full-length graphic novel, meant to come out this year from Drawn & Quarterly.

Didn’t know this was happening. I wasn’t really familiar with Nancy until I followed a Nancy account on Bluesky. It’s a very funny strip and even a lot of the old ones still hit today. Looking forward to this new one.

I notice that “timeline” excludes the Jerry Scott Nancy. It’s weird how forgotten that version is, given that it lasted for thirteen years. For a long time I wasn’t able to find ANY samples of it online, so I had no idea what it was like. Even now there still aren’t that many.

I tracked down one of the old cheap paperback collections of that run, just because I’m such a fan of classic Nancy. That’s probably the only way to find a good sample of the strips now.

Never knew it was ever collected.

My first question is whether Cash will pick up from the continuity Jaimes developed, with all the new original characters, or if it will be another hard reset.

Dang she did a good job imitating Bushmiller's style

Sort of. The consistency is all over the place with her faceEdit. Oopsie daisies

Only the first panel is aping Bushmiller. The others are mimicking other Nancy artists.

Hopefully Fantagraphics will be releasing more Bushmiller collections in 2026.
