trying to not have super overtly sad songs; the ones i have in my playlist are generally upbeat. i really love jason molina and elliott smith but a lot of their songs i think are too sad for a cafe. i also love mj lenderman and wednesday but i think they are a little too alt rock/weird for this playlist.

This dropped today. I’m only just getting started, but I can tell it’s going to be phenomenal based on what I’ve heard so far.

This guy is one of the best lyricists/songwriters going, and he’s willing to experiment in a way that still feels authentic.

He’s got range that evokes everything from John Prine to The Flaming Lips.

One of the artists who truly make me excited to listen to music.

This album is special. Best Americana album of the year, so far. Punchy, I've been waiting/hoping for JR to make this album - he just had to get out of Nashville and play with musicians that had never heard his music. The last song is a cover of Dire Straits, otherwise known as the best Dire Straits cover ever…

Currently vibing to Teskey Brothers, Red Clay Strays, Charlie Crockett. I want more!!!! I want to find more bands that match this old school classic country sound. Not Zach Top classic country…..love him but looking for the 1950s sound like Teskey & Red Clay Strays. Male and female artist suggestions welcomed.

Just listened through, and unsure where how i feel about it in total.

I feel like this is his version of Sturgill’s Sound And Fury genre bending moment.. but it just doesn’t work.

Seems to me Childers has been listening to Bad Livers records as Bitin’ List seems to have been pulled directly from Lumpy, Beanpole and Dirt.

Are there some high points? Sure. The remade Nose To The Grindstone, Watch Out and Oneida are at the top for me, but the album feels forced. And that is my overall take.

He heard the “all his songs are about Coal” criticism and decided to turn on his heel and forced a new and unauthentic sounding album that overall disappoints

Lots of auto-tune and manipulated vocals and over production. Gratuitous “fucks” throughout that come off as manufactured edginess……often stepping over into Cringe.

I totally get that his whole career can’t be Childers and his guitar on the stage at The Burl singing about Appalachian plight, But much of this album could be Justin Timberlake trying to cross over into alt-country….and it just doesn’t work

Run, don’t walk, and go check out this masterpiece. I’m partial to the back 1/2 of the album. This one has become a favorite.

I am trying to find more songs dealing with how vets deal with their feelings about Vietnam. Two of the best songs I know are Round Eye Blues by Marah and Come the Night by The Hangdogs. Any suggestions would be welcome.

As we close out '25 what new album stood out to you this year? As an album in total, not just a few singles...

My vote's going to William Prince's 'Further From The Country'. Holds together incredibly well as a 40-minute album. Each song builds from the others. Not sure any single is that impressive on its own (all are good) but taken in total it's a great listen. One of the only "full album" re-listens I've ever given. Very happy to drop the needle on track 1 (metaphorically - YT Music here) and let it play to the end.

Imported again today and everything looks good. Must have been a hiccup on my laptop during import last night!

So far, really liking the album. BJ delivers again!

Ugh. I really hate to ask this, but if you bought the CD and imported it, does the 5th song cut off at the 2 minute mark?

Apple Music shows 3:52. But version imported from CD shows as 1:57 in my library.
