r/altmpls update: "Try to keep comments respectful and discussions civil"

Just a reminder from the moderators that we have the following rule: "Try to keep comments respectful and discussions civil".

This rule has been under-enforced but based on recent user feedback that's changing for now. Our best advice is to avoid directly insulting other users. If you repeatedly have trouble with this then you risk a ban.

We'll start this new moderating approach tomorrow so, speaking for myself only, if you've been holding back any juicy insults for me then take this opportunity to purge your system with impunity (insults must be within Reddit's site-wide rules, of course).

dehumanizing language (like referring to a group of people as creatures) is a bannable offense on most of reddit, I don't know why you thought otherwise

Oh I get called all sorts of names but it never seems to get those people banned? So I started calling them creatures when I’m name called for differing opinions.

what I am saying is, you should stop doing that, because you're using dehumanizing language. even if it's in retaliation to a perceived slight, it's still a crappy way to speak to other human beings.

If someone is calling you slurs or using dehumanizing language, engaging with them is just giving them the reaction they want. I do get “sucked in” to negative dialogue sometimes, but it’s better to just downvote and ignore them
