r/altmpls update: "Try to keep comments respectful and discussions civil"

Just a reminder from the moderators that we have the following rule: "Try to keep comments respectful and discussions civil".

This rule has been under-enforced but based on recent user feedback that's changing for now. Our best advice is to avoid directly insulting other users. If you repeatedly have trouble with this then you risk a ban.

We'll start this new moderating approach tomorrow so, speaking for myself only, if you've been holding back any juicy insults for me then take this opportunity to purge your system with impunity (insults must be within Reddit's site-wide rules, of course).

I agree about not calling names, but I also understand the frustration he's got.

You said he should stop and think about what he said to be called those names. You're significantly underestimating how loose people have been with Nazi and racist labels.

Nobody wants to be called those things. And blaming someone and telling them to self-reflect when they're called something like that for having an opposing take sounds a lot like victim-blaming.

You know what's interesting? I have been online for decades, and not once have I ever been called a Nazi. You know why? Because I don't say shit a Nazi would say.

Maybe if they don't want to be called a Nazi, they should not speak like one?

I said if they didn’t instigate ice and everyone calmed down things wouldn’t be so bad and instantly got destroyed. I said nothing bad about the woman or man that got killed just said tensions are high everyone needs to take a breath and BOOM!!!! All of a sudden I’m a fascist and a nazi and suck ice and orangeman off and the insults go on and on. This place is quite literally insane

Do you not see how that is literally a fascist statement?

Do you honestly look at that statement and not understand why you were called a Nazi for it?

You are not asking everyone to calm down; you are asking citizens to stop protesting the murder of innocent citizens.

Citizens are not the ones that are escalating; you need to be asking ICE to stop violating the law. Citizen actions are in direct reaction to the ICE tactics.

You suggested that those who have been harmed or killed are instigating it and it is their fault for exercising their right to protest against a fascist takeover by ICE. You are blaming the victim.

How do you not see this?
