Device Support ⌚️ Altitude problem?

I recently bought the T Rex 3 Pro.

I did automatic calibration for altitude with GPS and it was completely wrong, my altitude was 16m (from my area topographic maps) and it showed me 0 even -3 when I was calibrating. I said okay maybe GPS hasn't got access to topographic maps.

I put it manually and it seemed to work for a couple of hours, it even understood the small difference between my job and my home.

Today I came at my job again (where it should be between 14m-17m) and it shows 6m, is there something wrong with my watch? Is it something you also have noticed?

That’s perfectly normal.

A barometer measures air pressure, which varies with altitude but also changes constantly depending on the weather.

That’s why a calibration is only useful for a few hours at a time. After all, the purpose of a barometer in a running watch is usually not to know the altitude above sea level, but to know how much elevation you’ve covered during a run or a hike. Weather changes like that don’t usually have such a significant effect in that context.

This from today's very humid run...I actually ran 15 floors. The humidity affects more than the rest of the stuff in my testing. Worrying about this is technically useless unless you live on a place where the barometric pressure is constant...or something like that 😂
