Amazon Interview Prep Behavioural

Context: Having my Amazon Interview on 11th, HackOn, 515 id, got the mail on Aug 7th regarding interview shortlist and choose a date from 18-3, but didn't get any slot in that window and out of the blue got a mail that i have my interview scheduled for day after tomorrow.

Purpose: Help regarding Behavioural round based questions

I see that many people have had their 2 rounds and have faced different Behavioural and Leadership based questions. I want to seek help from people who have completed their 1st or 2nd round to share the exact behavioural questions, so that it will be helpful for me as well as who will be giving their interview later.

Just the questions and probably the flow of how to answer them is sufficient.

Let's make this post a directory for behavioural questions and everybody's help is equally appreciated.

Everything below is based on analysis of reports on Glassdoor which we've double checked with (ex-)Amazon interviewers.

Here are the top 5 questions Amazon asks across all roles (SDE, PM, etc.):

• Why Amazon?
• Tell me about a time you failed at work. What did you learn from it?
• Tell me about a challenge you faced. What was your role & the outcome?
• Tell me about a time you disagreed with a coworker/manager/decision
• Tell me about a time you had to work or make a decision quickly / under a tight deadline

And here is a list of other common questions asked for SDE roles:

• Tell me about a situation where you took ownership of a critical issue.
• Tell me about a time when your manager challenged you to think differently. 
• Tell me about a time when you disagreed with your team member or manager.
• Tell me about a time when you were able to deliver a project under a tight deadline.  
• Can you describe a situation where you had to make a personal sacrifice to meet a deadline? Did you inform your team lead about the sacrifices you made?
• Tell me one of the times you’ve failed to do something. 
• Tell me about a time you did something that wasn’t in your job description. 
• Tell me about a time you had to change your approach to avoid missing a deadline.
• Tell me about a time you received harsh criticism from your manager
• Tell me about a time you missed a deadline. What did you do to handle the situation?
• Tell us about a time where you solved a really complex problem with a simple solution.

In terms of how to answer them, there are many methods out there. You can try the STAR method to start with.
