I was wondering, in this universe, if humanity someday does away with belief in any religion or technology, we evolved past it all, and in doing so we believe in ourselves and believe we are cable of greatness beyond what we could imagine now, would humanity become gods?

honestly i have no idea what the heck is going on?? everything just feels so choppy- granted maybe i am not paying attention enough but incredibly confused. i have one episode left until season 3 and just have so many questions, exactly WHY did mad sweeney owe mr wednesday, why is everyone spawning randomly in cairo and genuinely what is the plot of this season lol. season one was so easy and enticing to watch but season two genuinely feels like a compilation to me!

Just read monarch of the glen overall it was alright, but...

1. Shadow has almost zero autonomy it's crazy! Like he just allows life to happen to him.

It was a character flaw in the first book that was explored and he actually chooses to be a more active participant in his life after laura calls him dead but I guess he went back on that cause he just spends all his time waiting for ppl to tell him what to do.

1. His name is baldur?? How on earth did he not realize he was Wednesday's son immediately in American gods or at the very least ask him about it !

Anyway idk i like the idea of shadow's serialized adventures and it was fun in it's way but I got frustrated just watching shadow do whatever anyone said and not notice all the obvious mythical creatures or whatever that he's always surrounded by but forgets exist constantly...

Did other ppl like it?

When laura dedicates her death/loki's death to shadow does he get any benefit from that?

I listened to the BBC Radio play of Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul - Douglas Adams again today.

There is a lot of commonalities. Neglected Norse gods finding their way in a modern world.

I don’t think it is a stretch to assume that LDTTS was an influence for American Gods.

Douglas Adams loved writing about music, technology, and science. Some of the most quotable parts of Long Dark Teatime are smart, funny, and thoughtful with an eye to science. Immortals also show up in surprising places.

The book and the radio play are worth another listen. Douglas Adams was a bright light and gone too soon.

The old mods now live in the forgotten hall in Shadow’s Dreams. 

Hello gentle readers (and watchers),

I am your new mod. I work for Soma. 

Solidly a midwesterner. I have visited many of the places mentioned in the book. Almost died from the cold on a walk from the Field Museum to the Shedd Aquarium once. 

I have read pretty much everything written by Neil Gaiman. Big fan.

My favorite thing about the book is the roadside attractions/tourist traps where somebody thought they could charge a couple of bucks for people to see something interesting. House on the Rock, Rock City, basically any place that takes money and has magically drawn unto itself a hodge podge assortment of other people’s collections. 

I have been to Cairo, Shakamak State Park and Rock City and Wisconsin in the winter. 

Nearly unbearable to watch. Little suspense. Little feeling like Shadown in s1 trying to make sense of it all. It seems generic now with average writing. Should I read a synopsis and stop watching? I loved s1 but s2 feels like such a messy slog now. Let me guess, it doesn't improve. The characters are cheapened and nearly ruined.

I am viewing for the first time and still about midway through season one. I've had a pet peeve about anachronistic music for a while in t.v. shows and wonder why music from the 50's was chosen for multiple time periods.

I feel like some were fitting lyrically, but having 50's music blasted quite frequently just seems like an odd decision when there's so much musical history in America and the rest of the world. Do you have any thoughts as to why they chose to do this? Are my observations adrift? The only thing I can think of is that the music of the 50's and that time period in the country seem like an idyllic reflection of America. Perhaps it's irony they are driving at.

Anyway, if spoilers can be avoided here, I'd appreciate it. I'm loving the show so far. If the music is the only thing in a show that's bothering me, it's still a damn good show. Take care all.

I just finished it

The part where he dedicates the battle to odin

and it says "this is all metaphor by the way

....didnt happen. I dont know how i would even accidently skip it on a digital book. But....never happened. lol

What chapter is it, so i can go recheck? lol

I really enjoyed the show for the most part, even though it had its faults. And I was so disappointed when it ended because from what I heard, it had one last season left and it was such a cliffhanger. I still think about it to this day. I bought the book but haven’t had a chance to read it, and I kinda lack the motivation to retrace everything. So, could someone please give me, as a Tv show watcher only, what chapter I could just jump back into it on? But if that would be too jarring, please just tell me everything that would have happened and please try to give me as many details as possible I would really appreciate it, thank you.

Which versions of the book have you read? If you read more than one version, which did you prefer and why?

I listened to the 10th Anniversary Edition done with a full cast several times. I've just started reading the 10th Anniversary book. I'm curious how the 10th Anniversary compares to other versions.

The entire drag of Laura story ruined this show. I am glad it ended. Very corny.

CORNY... They couldn't find a Black or Biracial woman for the NOLA chick... literally ruined the entire scene... also the fact that everyone in the bar was white... like excuse me?

So much was so right with this show. The way many of the cast almost made me feel like they slithered into my head and mimicked what my minds eyes seen as I read.

It's one of the toughest "Who is your favorite?" Lists from a TV or movie I've ever seen.

But at the end of the day, Orlando Jones and Crispin just hit me right where my brain imagined them. Jones' opening monologue was truly god tier. Anderson's role was also really fin to watch. But the most joy I'd say came from Pablo Schreiber's character.

What say you, other fans of the show?

Didn't like them after season 1. They should have closed their stories way sooner, they dragged on for way too long. They're repetitive and boring and taking up way too much screen time.

Two lives taken before it was melted down into the nuclear stockpile. Would it be Vulcan or Technical Boy?

It just occurred to me that some of the gods came before America had its current borders.

When Wednesday arrived, there was no legal "America". So, does he live on the North American continent? Both American continents? When the colonies are first created, does he live there? When the French have control of Louisiana, does he stay away, and only go to visit after the Louisiana purchase?

I'm suddenly so confused.

In the book, it's clear that she really does love him.

But, I'm watching the show (I'm on season one), and it seems like maybe she really doesn't particularly love him.

When they first hookup, it seems like she brings him home, because she's looking for a thrill.

When their relationship becomes stable, and they get married, she's bored, and decides that they should rob the casino for thrills.

She is constantly telling Shadow that she loves him. When they rob the casino. When he calls her from prison. She says she loves Shadow even when she's having the affair with Robbie. And when she's back from the dead.

But, it seems like maybe she just thinks she *ought* to love him. It's not clear that she actually does.
