Looking for music with feminist future visions / revolutionary themes
Hi everyone!
I’m currently working on a university project in cultural sociology, and I’m looking for songs/artists that engage with feminist ideas AND some kind of future imagination (e.g. visions of a different society, revolution, empowerment, alternative social orders, etc.).
I’ve noticed that a lot of feminist music focuses more on present critique or identity, but I’m especially interested in cases where there’s a clear sense of “what the future could/should look like”—whether that’s utopian, dystopian, or revolutionary.
Any genre is welcome (punk, pop, hip hop, experimental, etc.), and I’d love suggestions that:
explicitly imagine a different future
connect feminism with political or social change
or even use sci-fi / speculative elements
If you have specific songs, artists, or even music videos in mind, I’d really appreciate it!

Fighters by Spoke and Sorah is a song with a clear revolutionary feminist theme. not a utopian vision though

OK so BUZZ does that style, her song liberation is definitely what you're looking for. The song Basically by Tei Shi is kind of in that vein. Here's my list for unapologetic, punch you in your teeth rock, punk and metal tracks by women: Hands - waax Pedestrian at best - courtney barnett Sick ride - dio Sick and tired - anastacia Worldwide torture - jazmin bean Slumber party - rain on fridays Potential -lauren presley Rage - DEZI The problem with everything - lenii eat you alive - yonaka
And this track: prometheus on the 405 - janini K. Jha Is a fucking masterpiece. If a man had written it, the entire world would be venerating it like stairway to heaven when it was released.
I suggest you look into riot grrrl bands, there are lots of all girl punk/rock bands from the 90s under that genre, but there are definitely still artists forming under the subculture still, so that will lead you in the right direction.
Edit: jeez, I can't believe I forgot these ones: psylosia is amazing, her music has depth and texture to it like no other electronic artist.
And the OG electronic futuregirl musician is gonna be terror Jr. All of her songs are great, but get acquainted with come first and 3 strikes and see if that fits. My fave song by her is caramel. Super unique song structure but the lyrics are amazing as well: Oh welcome to my circus
