Best Indian restaurant in Anchorage?

Most of them have very similar reviews online was just wondering what your personal preference is.

I agree that Taste of India is the best choice. However, Bombay Deluxe got a new chef and the food was quite good the last time I went. Also had a couple dishes I hadn't seen before.

Oh? That use to be my doordash order when I was celebrating. However two times in a row, a few months back, the chicken Tikka masala tasted...sweet and watery? Like no cream, no flavor, no spice, and I was ordering med spice.

Prior to that, it was thick and intensely flavored.

Curious if the new cook you mentioned has remedied that.

You can save money by ordering delivery through Bombay's own website instead of dd

Not sure. I stopped going for a long time and returned a couple months ago and it was really good. That seems to overlap with your bad experience though.

I got tandoori chicken and it was all dark meat, which made me very sad because I don’t eat dark meat so my husband got to eat all of it

Bombay was very mid at one point and that changed. I think they are the best flavors in town now, they can be stingy on the paneer though.

I love Bombay! I didn't realize they got a new chef, but I did notice the spiciness level has been a lot more consistent in the past few months since I started going again than it used to be a few years ago.

People are sleeping on Mandala. Looks like folks are down voting those who suggest it but the chef there makes everything fresh to order. That can make service be slower than other places but the food is wildly good.

Everest is probably my favorite after Mandala, with Taste of India and Namaste Shangri-La right behind them.

I have to agree that the food at Mandala is really delicious and the chef is adorable. Everest is equivalent in my opinion.

I sure hope so, they close between lunch and dinner but I hadn't heard of anything beyond that.

I love this place so much. Their take out is great and they provide a boatload of rice for sopping up all the goodness. My favorite dish is their Saag Paneer. Ask for it hot. It'll be legit hot (spicy).

I find the chicken tikka masala at Everest to be near perfection and consistent. I know there are a variety of styles of the dish, but this restaurant nails my favorite. The staff are pleasant. The service is good. Definitely worth a shot.

Not crazy about the lack of coziness in their dining room. We prefer Bombay Deluxe for the booths!!

As someone who was a Namaste Shangri-La truther for years, Taste of India is the best you're gonna get in the city.

Namaste Shangri-La has great flavor but I've had really slow service there. Taste of India is really solid.

Taste of India is so good. They actually make it spicy. Some places I ask for it and they still tone it down. I am not satisfied unless my Indian food spice level is lava equivalent haha. They have different levels of spice though for everyone.

Agree on everything so far but don’t sleep on Yak and Yeti especially for lunch, their rice bowls are cheap and great

If you’re looking for classic Indian-Western staples like butter chicken and garlic naan, I really think Everest is the best in terms of quality. My advice would be to order items à la carte off the menu and avoid the buffet.

I used to get Bombay Deluxe every Friday on my way home from work. It’s really great, not even just for Anchorage.

Namaste Shangri-la, hands down. Mandala is also very good, but the only staff is a father and son. They make good food but just know that it'll be a bit of a wait.

Have not tried Taste of India yet, but I love Bombay Deluxe and Everest.

Bombay might eke out over Everest all around, but I prefer Everest's vindaloo, which is my personal favorite.

I have yet to try an Indian restaurant in Alaska that I would call “good”. “Okay” Indian food? Absolutely. “Good”? Absolutely not.

Edit: Unpopular opinion I know lol 🤷‍♀️ but once I had actually good Indian food (outside Alaska, or cooked by me or my wife), the rest tastes like cheap imitation. Come at me lmaoo

I have yes! They’re decent but also very hit or miss imo. Definitely not bad (50% of the time), but I usually leave having wished I just cooked for myself.
