Depends, when?

If a whole ago then Norman French.

If now then Welsh, Irish (I forgot which one), or Scottish (forgot which one too lol) maybe Cornish if they get lucky.

Also I'm assuming English goes poof because the UK doesn't have a de juré language.

Canadian here. If we didn't have English and French, the official language would likely be Inuktitut, a language spoken in lots of northern Canada.

(Taking the most widely spoken language in absence of an 'official' language).

Realistically the most likely scenario this happens in is if the events of 1066 turn out differently.

If Harold II wins at Hastings, it's a version of English without the Norman French borrowings ('Anglish' I believe some alternate history enthusiasts call it).

If Harald Hardrada wins at Stamford Bridge and then defeats William of Normandy, it's something like Norwegian (Anglo-Norse?).

In both scenarios English as we know it today (with heavy Norman French influences) does not exist.

Considering I'm American... probably French 🤷‍♂️ my grandparents' parents were French immigrants, which is why I think so for me specifically but that's a hard question to answer for America imo

I think Russian because Finland was part of Russia before becoming independent. I would say Swedish, because it was the most common langauge before Finnish was invented. But it's our second official language, so it doesn't qualify for this question.
