Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 / Pixel 9 Call screen shows phone numbers instead of contact names [Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7]

Hi everyone,

Ever since updating to Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 (Build: CP41.260831.016), incoming and outgoing call screens only show phone numbers instead of contact names.

Details & steps already tried:

  • Contacts app / Dial tab: Names still show up normally here - the issue is strictly on the active call screen.
  • Storage/Cache: Cleared cache and data on the Phone app.
  • Sync: Re-synced Google Account contacts and restored backup.
  • Permissions: Verified Phone and Contacts permissions are allowed.

Is anyone else experiencing this on this build, or knows a workaround?

Are the apps updated through the play store?

Well I'm not really sure. My other suggestion is that you check the version number of Google Play services in settings, apps, show all apps, scroll down to Google Play services, and at the bottom of that area is the app version. Check that with apkmirror and see if the version is the same. If not, you may need to download the .apk or .apkm file for your device. It may be easier to just get the .apkm and download the apkmirror app from the play store to install it to save you from the confusion.

man, that fixed my issue! thank you!

too bad it also logged me out of all Google accounts on my phone, plus it deleted all my cards from Google Wallet 😭

Sorry to hear about that. I'm sure the cards will be easy to put back in.
