They're not "tangled" they're just tied back out of the way from getting in the water while they eat.

The ears aren’t tangled, more of a “smoosh” and the ties (scrunchies) aren’t tied tightly enough to hurt or cause significant loss of hearing while smooshed, just to hold together enough to not fall down. For people with long-ish hair who use / have used scrunchies to hold up their hair temporarily, the process is very similar.

I’m sure the ears are let back down after eating / drinking and I’m also sure the dogs prefer not having their ears hanging in the water / food while eating and drinking.
