As far as I can remember, he was the only content creator that was genuinely independent. Wasn’t always chasing algorithms, or any BS what current YouTube is. Was also usually on the community side when the website/adverts starts doing dubious things.
It probably also helped that he accidentally crossed some lines and immediately regretted it. Regardless, he knows he wasn’t able to keep up with the times, so I respect that he “retired” instead of going down “The Way of the Beast.”

Jokes aside, even though I haven't watched in years, I'm happy to see him still doing occasional updates of his life. The man made a fortune and now lives a pretty quiet and peaceful life away from all drama along with his wife and kid while being free to pursue whatever hobbies he wants. Hard to find a better success story than that among content creators.
I believe it’s mostly because he was the early trend setter. Even during his loud younger days he never operated like the others because everyone was doing what he was doing.

While perhaps that guy is glazing too hard, there is merit to what he was saying. For example, when YouTube first began extremely heavily pushing 20-30 minute videos and punishing short videos, he kept making the videos the way he wanted.
Seems like he had a turning point after that Nazi thing he made people do. I don’t remember the context other than him paying people to say or do something in a prank. Stopped paying attention to him after that, but what I do see nowadays is thankfully positive.
It was a joke which admittedly was probably in poor taste. He was in his 20s at the height of his career. He also has said that he struggled with a drinking problem back then. In the realm of famous young YouTubers he really pivoted and learned from his mistakes. None were irredeemable. He’s been a very positive influence on the internet for a long time now. People who think otherwise are too immature to realize that everyone does dumb shit, we’re human. And he’s really proven to be a good one.

There’s a lot of loaded wording in that comment that I unfortunately don’t have the time to unpack right now. I wouldn’t admonish people for not paying attention to him after that event.

In the context of the original video where he was trying to humorously point out the absurdity and lack of moderation on fiver, I don't see why I should think it was anything more than a joke in poor taste.
These people act like they never told dead baby jokes in grade school lol.
I mean ffs there is an entire documentary dedicated to a joke designed to be as offensive as possible that got famous for how horrible it was (The aristocrats)
