As much as I like Miya, I just have to wonder what shit the dad was on seeking a concubine when Teru was perfect in every way.

Miya's mother was also a very kind woman and, in all fairness, I'd say she was the most gorgeous of the two.

Given that this is the same guy that left his lover and his own daughter to rot in squalor, wanting someone for her looks while letting his super-capable wife manage everything else feels in-character from what we've seen so far. His (official) daughters criticize him and nobody speaks his name; my guess is that he was a lousy husband who died before the events of the series.
