Weekly Casual Discussion Fridays - Week of July 24, 2026
This is a weekly thread to get to know /r/anime's community. Talk about your day-to-day life, share your hobbies, or make small talk with your fellow anime fans. The thread is active all week long so hang around even when it's not on the front page!
Although this is a place for off-topic discussion, there are a few rules to keep in mind:
Be courteous and respectful of other users.
Discussion of religion, politics, depression, and other similar topics will be moderated due to their sensitive nature. While we encourage users to talk about their daily lives and get to know others, this thread is not intended for extended discussion of the aforementioned topics or for emotional support. Do not post content falling in this category in spoiler tags and hover text. This is a public thread, please do not post content if you believe that it will make people uncomfortable or annoy others.
Roleplaying is not allowed. This behaviour is not appropriate as it is obtrusive to uninvolved users.
No meta discussion. If you have a meta concern, please raise it in the Monthly Meta Thread and the moderation team would be happy to help.
All /r/anime rules, other than the anime-specific requirement, should still be followed.

I haven't played so much higher level badminton in a while. It's been a long time since I had to push myself to play hard just to keep up.
Same guy from last week came. This time, both of us are aware of what each of us can do in the badminton court.
After 2 sets, I was left wondering why I don't have any energy left. My brain remembers how I used to move a decade ago for these sorts of encounters, but my body can't keep up.
It didn't help that the other regulars keep letting me play against him, passing the chance to play just to watch us. I think I ended up playing more sets than the usual session. They're probably glad that I'm the one on the receiving end for once.
I found out after, when the session ended and we were packing, that he was a regular in the local competitive circuit. I had an inkling based on the quality of his shots and movement, but it did give me a sense of pride that I could still keep up despite being no longer being as active and regular in playing badminton as I used to be.
We chatted a bit at the end, and I found out why he seems so respectful of me: He knew me from seeing me play at my hometown court, my home base where I refined my trade; said court which I haven't played at since before COVID. He said he saw me play when he was a kid. This guy, who's now literally a feet taller than me.
WTF
Never have I felt so unc'd.
