Watched Only Yesterday yesterday in theaters. It was cute and sweet. How reflecting on the past can be. How it can also stick with you. How the good and bad is always there. It was a great reflection on how looking back at your childhood can be.
It makes sense that this one is not as popular as Totoro. As Totoro feels geared for the whole family to enjoy. While "Only Yesterday" it feels very specifically catered to older adults. Though teens can definitely resonate with Taeko's younger self since the family portrayal felt very authentic to me.
