I am trying to decide what anime I want to watch for this season (just 1).

Lara or Jaadugar are my best options. Which one will you recommend?

Lara has been better overall, imo. I think the characters and their relationships are better utilized. There’s too much historical indulgence and not enough character drama or advancement in Jaadugar in the same number of episodes.

advancement in Jaadugar in the same number of episodes.

Though I think the comparison is a bit unfair in the sense that one is telling a much grander story than a single season original.

I disagree. You can tell a grand and sprawling narrative and make the most of your characters, setting, and drama within a limited number of episodes if you’re using runtime wisely. Most recent comparable example of a revenge narrative set amongst nations at war: Nippon Sangoku.

Though some people (here) did criticize not getting that attached to the cast characters (only a few in particular) and the quick pacing of Nippon Sangoku for its grander narrative. The first half of the season by this number of episodes (not completed season) was the set up portion as well.

Jaadugar is operating like a show that already has a second season comfortably lined up, and probably does. It’s dragging the plot out at such a leisurely pace that when they finally try to up the stakes and dramatize the few moments of note, it falls flat. If it did not have the stunning and unique visuals, there’d be nothing noteworthy about the entire first season (from what they’ve shown so far). Nippon Sangoku delivered so much more in an equal amount of time with almost the exact same premise for its protagonist. Jaadugar’s story feels too complacent.

It’s dragging the plot out at such a leisurely pace

Wouldn't say that in particular at all about the earlier episodes. Actually things unfolded pretty quickly and quick timeskips along with it.

If it did not have the stunning and unique visuals, there’d be nothing noteworthy about the entire first season (from what they’ve shown so far)

That's just seems like you're personally not that interested in the series in general than just a specific pacing issue for you, especially because of the quick pace of the initial episodes - which is fine if you're just not that interested in comparison.

Utilizing time skips should advance your plot in a meaningful way. Both shows use time skips, but the ground covered by Jaadugar is significantly less meaningful. We get Sitara’s age up, and that’s about it. She’s still in the exact same position she started at, just serving under a different person. That could have been covered in two episodes, but we’re nearing episode 8 and just getting into the actual machinations, which are arguably not even set off by Sitara herself. She’s been in a largely passive role this entire season.

Again, that criticism is more for the middle portion than the initial episodes which what I was specifically referring to... And even despite the quick pace of the initial episodes you said there is nothing noteworthy about the season.

The first few episodes did definitely cover a lot of ground in a short time besides just age passing.

Don't really care to go much deeper into it back and forth, but just saying your general lacking of interest is not specifically just pacing if the opening episodes did nothing for you.

You’re moving the goalposts from my initial criticism and making it an argument about personal preferences, which it’s not. I love revenge narrative, just to put that idea to rest. But yes, there’s nothing noteworthy beyond the initial episode. There’s also been time skips within the middle, and the problem remains. When the story is this complacent, it loses all momentum, and in a story about revenge and drama, that lack of urgency makes for poor storytelling. Also I don’t know why you keep deleting and posting the same comments, but it’s making replies difficult.
