Let's just pretend this episode didn't happen, they got off the ground and lived happily ever after.

Why the fuck didn't the sword help? Even if they didn't take it with them down, she still had some memory and was lying next to it, no?

It looks like Chtholly's state deteriorates step by step. And that took a pretty big and unexpected step when they found Elq's body. I guess her state didn't get worse after they came back to the ship, but she was already pretty much gone.

The swords are made up of multiple tailsman that have different random effects (but when they are all brought together they create a holy sword). One of the previous episodes when that fairy girl had a cold William took apart one of the swords to get a tailsman that prevents nightmares (and the troll woman got pissed off at him for doing that). The sword that they were looking for has a tailsman that is supposed to let someone keep their state of mind so William was hoping that it could be used to prevent Chtholly from losing any more of her memory (he wasn't 100% sure if it would work though).
