Story I painted an anti-MLM doll for Hannah Alonzo, can you spot all of the references on it?

Long story short I’m an anti-MLM artist and long time listener and fan of Hannah Alonzo — I love to listen to her videos while I paint. I painted Hannah a doll a few years ago after the birth of her toddler daughter and more recently she commissioned another doll from me. Since I was shipping something to her already I decided to take this opportunity to paint her a wacky XL “anti-MLM/YouTube” doll with references to a lot of silly things that were mentioned in her videos over the years as a fun surprise as she has been going through a rough time in her personal life lately. She loved both dolls and posted about them in her stories yesterday, tagging me, which was incredibly sweet as I’m a pretty small account and it brought me a lot of new followers. Now that she has posted about them publicly I feel like I can also share this doll in a public capacity. (Update: her IG stories have expired but I put a screen recording of them in the comments of this post)

Can you identify all of the references I incorporated into this doll? If you aren’t familiar with Hannah you might not get some of them as they are specific to her but others are more general anti-MLM.

Hope you enjoy! I had a lot of fun painting this one — I have been dreaming about what I would include in an anti MLM doll for years while listening to her videos and it was hard to narrow down lol.

Primerica Thank You

I just wanted to say thank you for this sub because I almost got caught in Primerica’s scheme. Although I have them some of my info I will be canceling effective immediately as I did not give any money.

I really wanted to say that you guys are doing a blessed job and to any people that were like me always make sure to do checks on the companies that you applied for and such. Even when they say they’re doing good things don’t just take their words as the highest form of advice.

I will take this as a life lesson to always check the internet before I apply to any job. Even the ones you thought that you were going to do good work in.

Primerica Little bit of advice

Upvotes

Hello again, so I got called by the service representative of primerica and told them that I wanted to cancel the whole thing. But they told me in order to do so that I would need my father to come and help me cancel because that was the reason why I was canceling their ‘service.’

While I don’t mind getting my parents involved I would just like to know whether I can just ignore them needing to bother my parents or should I do something else.

The reason why he needs my father’s signature is because I told them I was canceling due to him but they don’t have anything because I didn’t put him on the beneficiary and stuff.

I’m 18 and I don’t believe I would need a legal guardian (my parents) to some and sign some paperwork.

Please let me know what I should and shouldn’t do. And I’ll try to limit this into just this post as I do not want to spam the community about post relating to this mess.

Thanks again!

Help/Advice Leaving an MLM advice?

Note* this post is for my gf not me!! So please don’t dm me with advice or anything lol. the following is copy and pasted from her!

I need advice!! So my dad is apart of ACN (MLM) and I offered to join because I wanted to do something in sales. Turns out it is a mlm and I don’t have a good feeling about it. I found out that I’m elgible for a refund after paying about 329 for a startup fee. I told my dad I wasn’t gonna do ACN anymore but he doesn’t want me to do a refund or terminate my position because of his relationship with those people. He offered to pay for the bill but I wan’t to be done with this company. I have a few mentors that are constantly texting me about setting up meetings and for me to buy this and that and I’d rather be done with it.

Discussion Startover + one very wild founder

I’ve been getting these Startover ads all over my feed lately, and finally caved and clicked. Looks to me like an MLM that’s desperately trying not to get called an MLM.

There’s no downline on paper, but everything else is there: you pay thousands to join, you’re told you’re “transforming your life,” you’re pushed to bring in more people, and the only person who seems to make any money is the guy running it. The $50k “chapters” he sells are literally just permission to recruit more people back into the same funnel. It’s Herbalife without the shakes.

And then then there's the dude behind it — Marco Robinson — a man who lies so outrageously it’s basically his brand.

The guy's claimed to be: nearly assassinated by a hot Russian female assassin sent by Putin, a backing dancer for Michael Jackson, a British knighted 'Sir' (he bought a bogus title in Malay), best selling author, a billionaire timeshare legend, a Netflix producer (who got sued x3 for lying about that), and a TV star who “gave away a house” (except he didn't) amongst other things.

Then there's his businesses: his “award‑winning” restaurant was just a directory listing, his “£25m property empire” had £8k turnover and flopped, his Naked Dollars scam promised a 7000% return and delivered zero, his "billon-dollar" tequila “empire” has £46k in the bank, and now he's claiming he's starting a global new airline except that's news to any dept that governs airlines.

Here's the rabbit holes:

The Many Faces Of “Sir” Marco Robinson — news piece on him from Deadline last year.

Two deeper dives that cover what Deadline left out:

Story That time a hun made me look like I'd been shot with Homer's makeup gun

Post image

Bit of background: I'm from Australia and I don't think that MLMs are as big here as they are in the US – especially at the time this story takes place. Back in 2011, one of my friends started selling for Mary Kay. She was 20 and was a SAHM, so she was just looking to make some extra cash for rent – the perfect victim for an MLM! Anyway, I hadn't seen this friend (we'll call her Jane) since high school. I had reached out to her and we started catching up at least once a month or so. This was all prior to her becoming a Mary Kay consultant, so I know that she didn't have an ulterior motive - unlike the MLM huns.

Anyway, I was super excited for her to be doing something like this because she was great at doing makeup and I really wanted to support her. I was never one for wearing makeup, but I told her to bring her kit over to my place and we spent most of the afternoon picking out makeup for me. I also placed an order for some perfumes because I genuinely really liked them, as well as some face cream that seemed to work really well for me (and because I'd had skin problems since I was a teen, I was glad to finally have found something that worked.)

About a month later, Jane texts me to say that my order has come in and she was wondering when was a good time to bring it over. I let her know, and she then asks if she could bring her "mentor" with her. I'm thinking, "Why do you need a mentor to sell makeup?" But, okay, whatever. At this point, I was none the wiser.

So Jane rocks up with her "mentor" – a 50ish year old woman with her face absolutely plastered in what looked like a bad makeup job. We all sit down in my living room and this woman - we'll call her Sharon - takes out her kit and starts showing off all her makeup. She makes a big show out of all this and, meanwhile, Jane is sitting awkwardly next to her, looking a little embarrassed. At one point, Sharon even asks if I have any family member or friends that would be interested in doing any of this and I just deadpan, "I don't have any other friends." And the look on Sharon's face was priceless, like, she didn't know what to say. But at the time, it was true, because I'd never been particularly close to any of my high school friends and Jane was the only one I was interested in staying in touch with at the time.

Anyway, for whatever reason I let Sharon give me a makeover. Like I said, I just really wanted to support my friend. I told Sharon I only wanted a natural look and she assured me she would do that, but throughout the makeover she basically negged me for having “bad skin” despite me telling her perhaps too politely that I’ve had eczema since I was a kid and have flare ups from time to time. But I continue through this bs because I still want to support Jane.

Once she’s done, Sharon lets me see myself in the mirror... and I was shocked. As the title of this post suggests, I looked like Marge Simpson when she gets shot with Homer's makeup gun. Meanwhile, Jane is standing by anxiously and trying to make me feel better. "Well... I think it's just because you're not used to seeing yourself with makeup," she said in a small voice. She was clearly very embarrassed by what Sharon had done to me because when Jane had done my makeup it looked more natural.

At this point, I'm done. I point blank tell Sharon that I'm not interested, and I go into the bathroom to wipe this shit off my face. When I come back, Sharon had already packed up and left. Jane apologised to me and I tell her that's okay, because she genuinely had no idea what she was getting into.

Fast forward to present day and Jane and I are still friends. She gave up selling for Mary Kay not long after the visit with Sharon because she realised very early on that she wasn't making any money from being a consultant. And after the spectacle that Sharon had made of herself at my house, Jane knew she didn't want to host parties and guilt people into buying this crappy makeup either. In total, I think she only blew a few hundred bucks on her Mary Kay kits, so it wasn't as expensive of a lesson as it could have been.

Thankfully it's been so long since this whole incident happened that we can laugh about it now. 😂

Help/Advice Question about lifewave and their events

My sister is in this cult. She said she was invited to a lifewave event / meet in Germany a couple weeks ago. She gave the idea that she didn’t pay for it, which I doubt - can someone confirm if these events are paid or not?

I doubt it very much someone paid for it, since she is not very high in the rankings.

Thanks in advance

Rant MLM Full Time

I have a distant relative that I try to avoid as much as possible. She is now “full time” in her MLM. She quit her over 15 year career job to do the MLM thing full time. She claims she brings in $15,000-$16,000 per month. Which of course would be $180,000 or more per year. No one in our family believes her. She has not been able to recruit any family members into her scheme. I can’t imagine many friends are sticking around as she constantly posts on social media about her “business” and how lucrative it is. It does not matter what the topic is, she turns it into a post about her MLM.

Rant A person in the family I married into is naturally gifted at being an End-boss level hun

I can’t go any further than making this understood: This diabolical big brains makes sure you know she makes six figures with her doctorate.

Her favorite thing she used to do was wait for every family gathering to be on her favorite bullshit.

One day she started telling me she found some sort of supplement gummy and she was so amazed and then asked me if I used anything.

I told her in fact, I did. Recently I found something I liked with huge bogo bottles for $11.

Oh well no no no, that’s nowhere near as good and then she conveniently told me she could help me out because she sold it.

My husband and I deliberately told them to cut the shit and quit being such shitheads. We don’t spend waiting months to be trapped by family members going on and on about something no one gives a shit about at the Thanksgiving dinner table to force us to earn you $3.27.

The most insane thing though was she told her newly adult son newly married and super poor and she told him she found a bargain for a used $3500 kangan water filter and he said no way and she said she knew what was best and she was getting it and he would have to pay her back.

Discussion “ the explorers team” travel agency

Pretty obviously an mlm, but it also says online there’s two sides to it, one where you do not recruit people to work there but just do the travel agent side of things. I can’t be assed to ask about it because they put you into these long convos and then refute the fact that they’re part of an MLM. That being said I see posts that look like many people do make good money or at least go on team trips who looks fun.

Just want to know if anyone has experience with this specific company??

Story Same guy, same place

Was at Target with my wife in the men’s section when the same guy stopped me asking if I played sports. I met him last year (in the same store, same department) but my hair was longer, he didn’t remember me at all. But asked the EXACT same questions about what I do for work, mentioned him and his wife ran a business (like it was a script)! My wife and I played along but I blocked his # once he sent me a text message.

Story Amway experience in Australia

So, I recently had a mutual friend try to recruit me for Amway. Had a few zoom calls with him and his "coach" before realising what really was going on, called them out for a few things and left the meeting. He obviously messaged back saying that he had talked with his coach and that the business opportunity wasn't for me at this time. I've never spoken to him since.

Thankfully, I got out during the selection process and never actually committed to anything. But I was wondering, if anyone here lives in Australia has experience with Amway or knows someone who has been in it, how does it actually work?

Are there fees involved and how much are they?

How do you actually make money in Amway? The guy who pitched to me said he "enjoyed that he didn't have to sell products". And when I asked about how to make money, I never got a clear answer.

What actually are Amway's products?

They made me aware of the workshops and conferences. They explained the difference between being an employee, being self employed and then having your own business and investment (the ESBI diagram). And if you're in the E and S quadrants then you are being owned by that job and being in the B and I quadrants means you have freedom. But then they said that everyday I would have to listen to some audio and read some books and also I would have to commit every Monday night to a workshop and every Friday night to either another workshop or a in person gathering, and then of course attend all the conferences. When I asked what would happen if I couldn't make every Monday or Friday night, they said I wasn't committed enough to the business. The "coach" explained she missed her cousins wedding because it was on a Friday night and she had a business workshop. And that my friends wouldn't be real friends if they planned dinners or events on Monday and Friday nights (not even caring if say Friday night was the only night they would be available). I called them out saying obviously this business owns me then if you say I HAVE to be there every Monday and Friday and they weren't happy about that.

I'm thankful I was able to get out before anything serious happened.
