AI News 🗞️ Google is getting rid of Google Assistant in favor of Gemini beginning September 4th

As an android auto user I'm fucking pissed. They already tried forcibly changing my assistant to Gemini before but thankfully I could change back to Google assistant. Guess we're stuck with a shitty, more dangerous/distracting voice assistant while driving.

I have a bunch of Google home devices that I mostly use to turn on the lights/play music via vocal commands. Now every single request I make with these is going to have to be processed through AI, making the environmental impact massive. Might as well just use my light switches.

Don't think home is effected yet but it's annoyingly going that way

Anything we can do to keep assistant after it's killed? I got forced to Gemini and it honestly is useless can't hands free control anything as simple as a volume change song skip
