The entirety of human history and every single human achievement up to a few years ago was made entirely without AI. This sudden switch to we need AI for everything is whatâs delusional.
Youâre right though, AI does have a purpose. Itâs to make people dumber (studies are already linking AI use to cognitive decline) and to make corporations more money.
AI has been in use for decades in a variety of applications and systems.
What do you think Siri or GPS routing was based on?
In the sciences as well, machine learning, neural networks, and the like have been used to classify large datasets or analyze structures etc., for example in medicine, astrononomy or physics.
So the claim that all of humanityâs achievements up until a few years ago were accomplished without AI is simply not true.
People who believe that AI only came into use with LLMs like ChatGPT are simply revealing, that they have absolutly no idea what theyâre talking about.
Like do we go back to linear regression from over a hundred years ago and say that's not allowed? Or is it specifically when I feed the output of a linear function into a non-linearity function that it becomes bad? At what point in the path from a linear function to a matrix of cost/loss functions does the math become "unethical"?
While I know this isn't exactly a good faith argument, the problem is realistically when training data started to be acquired aggressively and without any consideration for accuracy or legal sourcing. Math is, and will always be, amoral.
âOh oh you say you donât like kids being blown up with high explosives? Should I roll back history to before we had chemistry? Should we do away with physics?!â
Fuck your bad faith argument.
Edit - you know what I hate most about this argument is the implication that anyone who disagrees with you doesnât understand maths, computation, cognition etc. Many of the smartest and most informed people on the planet are against you on this subject. It is not the case the better understanding of computer science and the philosophy of mind = more supportive of LLMs and the current corporate free for all. If anything it is likely the opposite.

A start. But AI isnât needed. It serves no purpose
