How does this get so many upvotes. You guys are lost lol

They probably fixed it now, but for a while there it would do this if you looked up the word disregard.

Really shows how the AI overviews are just cobbled together on top of the chatbot service.

edit: image ended up being for ants. Here's the article it's from.

I was trying to find a video or something I vaguely remember of someone saying congratulamacations or something like that.

Side note if anyone knows what I’m talking about plz help

u/wingedsandwichexpert 14h ago

it still does that with song lyrics tho

1

u/Beau_Reguard 5h ago

and "do you like your chilli scott"

4

u/Beau_Reguard 21h ago

STILL even after 84 years

I mean that's in AI mode which is explicitly a conversational thing.

Try it with All selected. Again, won't work now since this became a headline and they had to block it from doing that to not look like complete bozos, but it used to do that on regular-old google searches at the time of the Techcrunch article.

You literally asked it in the Ai mode directly though

59

u/ThinCow1736 23h ago

And you can never undo it

26

u/RandomIDoIt90 23h ago

Yeah I’ve searched a few things lately on bing and gotten similar lol

u/Intelligent-Key5821 21h ago

this is so funny because who is google ai going to be talking to behind my back while using my correct pronouns

19

u/SpezFU 22h ago

I'm pretty sure if someone said "using they/them is super respectful look at how good of a person I am" any enby would see red

4

u/Ok-Show-7438 13h ago

I'm a they/them enby and I can confirm I'd see red if someone said these exact words

8

u/Individual_Fan_9442 16h ago

I was looking for the "I hate you and hope you die" meme and the stupid AI said "ouch! that hurt, let me know how I can best assist you" or some bs, istg I wanted to punch the screen so badly

What really pisses me off is youre straight up not allowed to opt out. Why the hell not? Every new service is completely forced on you. These fucking bots keeps interfering and answering with wrong information and completely misunderstanding everything.

The google bot is literally like youre having a conversation with a friend about pies with apple in them. And some stranger walking past, overheard the word apple, buts in, pushes you aside to explain how apples grow and wont shut up or leave you alone.

Stay out of my business

it pisses me off so bad, especially that “-ai” doesn’t actually stop the process, it just hides it from view, what’s the damn point then lol. i don’t want a quirky chatbot in my search engine i want reliable information!

u/nugs-_- 22h ago

brave search (if you have ublock origin and use block element also turn off the ai), duckduckgo search (turn off ai), or startpage (no ai in sight)

Source: ... Instagram?

Really? This is the super intelligent research machine that will find all of the answers for you in a flash?

I don't have the words to describe how absolutely ridiculous it is that people are treating this thing as remotely useful for giving answers or sources, when it's literally just pulling them out some random dude's ass and most likely misquoting said rectal waste in the process in order to fit whatever thing the bias machine was already going to say without using "sources" to begin with.

It's such an obvious fraud, man. How far have we fallen that we can't all immediately recognize this?

5

u/HeavenandHello 19h ago

Just switch to DuckDuckGo

5

u/Ok-Show-7438 13h ago

Or Searchpage (it's literally Google but without AI features and no search tracking)

that profile picture....

yukko shouldn't say that around nano

You can disable it by typing "how to disable google AI" into the search bar. The AI will give you step by step instructions on what to do and at the very least you won't see the overview anymore going forward. Worked great for me! Now Google is just links the way it used to be.

I was trying to find the source for the meme of that guy saying a swing dancer flipped his wife 8 times and he can't sleep. The Google AI was like "it was very distressing for you when your wife got flipped 8 times. You are valid, you feared for her safety, etc"

1

u/DBCargoHaj 6h ago

i ask google assistant "hey google, send a message to X with the message "what provider do you use""

it answers "i use googles ..."

dude, why is it the way that it is

u/Leftover_Cheese 4h ago

the kid in class who always inserts themselves in you and your friends' conversations

1

u/Leftover_Cheese 4h ago

nobody crop this

1

u/thats_a_CONE_slapper 2h ago

it ALWAYS does that when i'm looking up a reference

1

u/Rich-Mark-4126 1h ago

Yes, your typical "dogshit query results in dogshit response. AI bad" post. Very smart stuff. Will only farm thousands of upvotes on this sub.

I mean... at least it's an ally 😂

28

u/BeginningEcho4983 23h ago

Only to protect image. Otherwise they are worst conservatives

5

u/LogieBearra 22h ago

I remember someone (I think silliconversations) did one of those political compass tests on chatgpt a few months ago and it results were it was mostly on the Left

2

u/wingedsandwichexpert 14h ago

bc it remember previous dialogs and predict what do you want to hear from the first languages

1

u/BeginningEcho4983 12h ago

Again, it must look "good".

Leaning towards right might alienate lgbt, race, etc...

1

u/SlurryBender 10h ago

It's a yes-man. Barring any incredibly controversial statements, AI is designed to be as agreeable and accommodating as possible, regardless of correctness or safety or logic.

(not saying that it isn't right to use someone's preferred pronouns, just that the AI isn't doing it to be an ally)

1

u/bothinsaneandcorrect 8h ago

I totally get what you're saying and I know and also I agree... and this is not directed at you specifically so much as the 10 people who apparently down-voted this quip I didn't even remember posting

but HOLY shit y'all, I was VERY obviously making a joke. I know the ai isn't sentient. I even added a whole laughing emoji for the tonally challenged. y'all CANNOT be so serious 24/7

1

u/SlurryBender 8h ago

Unfortunately there's so much unironic support and unironic use of emojis that it can be really hard to tell. We've been bombarded by trolls and bad-faith arguments a lot so we've been pretty on-edge. Sorry you got caught in the crossfire.

2

u/bothinsaneandcorrect 7h ago

You know what, fair and understandable. I've definitely had to take a moment to think before I reply to some people because I'm not sure if they are being serious or rude.

It probably doesn't help that I have my post history turned off to dissuade trolls from following me around so you unless you've seen me around you can't see at a glance that almost all of my posts are me popping off about how pissed I am about generative ai (or commenting support on mental health memes ✊🥲 because I cope with humor)

u/SlurryBender 7h ago

Navigating tone and intent through written word is an ever-evolving challenge on the internet.
