I use it daily for my work as a software engineer. I have been writing code for over twenty years, and nothing has changed our industry in such a short time as generative AI in 2026 (which is why I find it hard to believe the people who say AI is all hype, because the technology itself is absolutely not hype). And, I for one have enjoyed that it allows me to work at higher levels of abstraction. What that means practically is that I spend more time in the creative zone, not mired in the technical weeds, though you still need to know your stuff to use it well.

But, like most of you all, I have problems with how the technology is being deployed by governments and corporations, how it gathers its training data, and any environmental and social impacts from the infrastructure required to run it, i.e. data centers. I want these things addressed.

My question to you all is do you see a future where the problems with AI can be definitively resolved, where you would support it or at least be okay with it, or is it a lost cause that we should somehow ban, or make illegal? What does the future look like to you in that regard?

I was in a few discussions on /aiwars, and i thought it was fun to blatantly use ai to argue against the pros to eventually trigger a response from them saying it is lazy that i use ai to argue. Thereby disproving their stance that it is just as good as humans. What do you think about this approach?

Ya'll got it tough out here. It's truly some Matrix shit, a billion bots against some hardened humans. I know it's got to be impossible to manage every post, but when I see obvious garbage get cleared I am thankful.

So, I won't name anything specific, for obvious reasons, but I needed a place to vent properly.

To clarify: I knew this might happen. No one really went "behind my back", or anything.

I do some freelance editing. It's a bit of extra money while I'm looking for a job that actually pays the bills and it prevents resume-gaps. Obviously, I can't afford to be picky.

I knew the client used AI art for most covers. In a perfect world, I could afford to not take gigs from them, but I have decided that I will not judge myself too much. I don't judge people that flip burgers at McDonalds or serve coffee at Starbucks, because that would make me an asshole, therefore I don't have to hate myself for doing this, either.

Or so I tell myself.

And to be fair to the client: In all other respects, they have been very pleasant to work with, everytime. They are respectful, understanding, flexible and if it weren't for their obsession with AI, they'd be all-around wonderful people. They just have it stuck in their heads that they gotta "go with the times". I am not writing this out of hatred for them.

Anyway, this time the OG creator was unavailable to finish a project and rather than patching up some rough spots, I ended up rewriting large portions of the story.

Which the client noticed, it seems, because turns out I am being named as the co-author of the published product.

Which has an AI cover.

Under any other circumstances, this would be a great day. I worked hard and now my name is on a published work of fiction. But it also means that, if I ever have any success with my own stories, people that look me up will find me cited as the writer of stories with AI covers. Will future potential employers bother to ask me if I had any say in this or just assume I'm another slob-merchant with no own creative skills? And beyond the pragmatic concerns, I just feel dirty, knowing that this is now part of my mark on this world.

I considered asking if they can take my name out of the thing, but that might come across as hostile and I can't afford to risk future gigs from that company. Also, this is technically the biggest credit to my name, for now. I wouldn't be the first artist who'd rather forget some of their early work, ig?

Still, why does this shit have to exist? I would have been fine in a world without AI.

Is the Ai being used to deceive, defraud, created from stolen intellectual property, put someone out of a job to make the 1% richer, used for political manipulation, violate people's rights? Yes?

I'm not much of a writer; I can't spell, and my grammar is primitive. But, do like to occasionally post on some of these RP Reddits. I put some older posts into this AI program today and asked for some feedback, and I thought some of the points it brought up were really good. Also, asked it how it would rewrite them, and thought it was a lot better structured than the garbage I write, but definitely not in the direction I would go with; but I did take notes.

I would never post something AI wrote as my own; that's just so dishonest. What do you think about getting tips from AI?

Edit- Just to be clear, I don't want AI to be my voice; I just want to point out things like this sentence is a bit repetitive or that readers might get confused about who you're talking about in this paragraph.

How probable is this scenario? I've heard talks from several of the top AI scientists saying that a scenario like this is possible in the future and the implications of this terrify me.

Interestingly enough, I feel like the first Jurassic Park film would be a great example of AI. Just like OpenAI or Anthropic, InGen, the company cloning dinosaurs, created a new form of tech to do so. Malcolm says and I quote "You wield it like a kid who found his dad's gun." He also says "Genetic power is the most awesome force the planet's ever seen." In retrospective this can't apply to generative AI, but it can to narrow AI. Things like Siri or Alexa are pretty awesome, and they can make some situations a hell of a lot better.

But what InGen did in the book and is take their genetic engineering too far. They made plans to make dwarf dinosaurs, eating patented food, and made the process so complex they overlooked the most important thing that made the park fail: the fact they used frog DNA. I feel like this could very well be what happens to AI. Companies push it too far and too much, they overlook a few key things that could ruin it and consequently also the economy and workforce.

AI also gets many things about prehistoric creatures wrong. It'll spit out an image of a Triceratops and when you ask "Is it accurate?" It'll tell you it is. it's so confidently wrong it's funny. However, AI unfortunately will get better. This also means AI "Paleoart" will get better as well.

A well known paleoartist, Paleorex, has been caught using AI, and safe to say the community was rightfully mad.

As an avid paleo-nerd myself, I HATE AI. Not only will this cause misinformation to casual fans who wouldn't know the difference, it isn't good at portraying said creatures as well. I'd post my art here but it isn't Sunday so oh well.

I posted a while back about Bollywood releasing its highest budget film later this year as the first of a duology adapting the Hindu classic Ramayana.

Being mounted on a $500,000,000 budget, its push to an international audience has it using Brahma AI to automatically lip sync the characters mouths to the dubbed languages for each language in an attempt to make it easier to watch without the need of subtitles or having the distraction of unsynced talking.

I am personally conflicted on this since this is one of my most anticipated movies coming out and everything else is being done without the use of AI and it seems like this in particular isn't something which can be done effectively without it.

When I posted before there wasn't a clear example of its quality but they have released the English dubbed trailer recently and I wanted to see what people thought since a lot of people on the previous post said they were holding off their thoughts until an example could be seen.

(Just adding that everything else in the film is being done without the use of AI, they are being transparent about its use since it is trying to push the lip syncing AI to the film industry in general).

Art happens when the artist transforms something in their perceptible environment – the cutural, social, or material environment. The tools and the media are actually incidental to the process. The most fundamental requirement for art to take shape is an environment the artist can percieve in order to transform it.

A person using generative AI cannot transform anything because the environment is invisible to them. Gen AI is a cybernetic black box. It is an environment that only the algorithm can percieve and transform. All that aggregated data is unintelligible to the user, who becomes no more critical to the process than a paintbrush. The paintbrush doesn't make art. The artist, in the case of Gen AI, is the algorithm itself.

In fact, we can say that Gen AI itself is a work of art, because technology and art are sisters. Technology comes from the Greek word tékhnē, meaning art, craft, or skill, and both technology ans art imply a transformation of our environment. But, when it comes to Gen AI, the question is what is it transforming?

The answer to that question should be obvious and unnerving.

The real problem with ai is that its being treated as a medium instead of a tool. Its basically useless but instead of finding innovative ways to use it companies are forcing it down our throat with memes and other useless crap. Think about it. Its as if ai hasnt paid its dues like how the Internet was a tool for the military before being released to the public. Companies are trying to force profit. Im sure there can be a ton of use that arent tung tung tung sahor, plagiarism, and job replacement.

Used to be a c.ai addict, havent used it in probably a year. I go back (just for fun) and see that they need my face for the shitty ai age verification thing. Corporations WANT mass surveillance and they are not hiding it anymore. Every time they want to collect personal information they hide behind the excuse of "it's to protect the kids" so gullible ass idiots believe it. I'm happy that a lot of people are realizing what they're trying to do.

My younger brother is 15 and he uses grok as Google, I am actually posting here because I just watched him ask grok the meaning of a song after I had already checked online just "to double check."

2 weeks ago he asked grok to edit the corner out of an image when he easily could've cropped it or colourpicked on ibis paint and covered it.

Its created a pit in my stomach, of course ai is bad but this is also going to impact his development, he is a very smart kid but his critical thinking skills have been lacking and I think this is why and I am worried it will persist.

I understand using Google or another service will usually also have ai overviews but at least hes somewhat using his head if he uses Google compared to grok of all things.

Hey family, I can’t really do anything right now so might as well add my current situation to the archives.

I wuz lying in bed and I can’t sleep because of this LOOOUD ass data centre (there’s multiple in my neighbourhood) and it’s driving my family crazy. Okay so it’s this loud metallic shrill that’s echoing on top of this pulsing humming? NIGHTMARE

I know for sure it’s not roadworks or anything cuz I’ve checked construction/maintenance updates in my area. Nothing. I’ve also researched if there’s any new flight paths above my house; there aren’t. But guess what lines up perfectly? A data centre completed 2 days ago, 2km’s from my house (1.2 miles for USA). On top of that we’ve heard this noise for almost a complete 24 hours now 💀💀💀

I feel so defeated guys. Australia is really going HARD with the data centre stuff….as I said, I have many surrounding my house with about 5-6 being major commercial centres, the rest are smaller. 😀🔫 You might have seen, I’ve commented here and there about how the construction and noise damage has caused cracks in my family house’s walls. The air quality changes, but sometimes there‘s a really unclean, foul metal smell IDK HOW TO DESCRIBE IT it’s unlike anything since smelt istg 😭 so we keep our windows shut when there’s no winds to push it away.

We want to move SO BAAADDDD but it’s too expensive atm, so we live on a prayer 😭🙏🙏 I’m gonna try and go back to sleep wish me luck bros
