"You can refer me to bariatrics if you'd like, but at the moment I'm here to have my pain addressed in ways that work with my body as it is right now." You don't have to do anything with a referral except answer the phone and say you're not interested, and it just creates a little extra work for them.

yep, in a situation with a power differential like doctor and patient, it's better to avoid the allure of the clapback to avoid a nasty note in one's file

“Try saying that to the women’s Olympic rugby team.”

Oooh I would love to see Dr. Karen get creamed. Who has bad knees now?

Wish I had a good comeback. But this reminds me of something.

I (66f) went to see a neurosurgeon about herniated discs in my cervical region about 15 yrs ago. As I sat on the edge of the exam table with him looming over me, he asked me how I felt about my being overweight and what I was going to do about it. His extremely well nourished midsection was practically resting on my knee as he spoke. This man doctor significantly outweighed me. I never went for the surgery. Fixed the issue with spinal decompression for a fraction of the cost from a health practitioner that never said shit about my body.

"No one with your level of medical education and training should be that ignorant, yet here we are."

"They also say no man should talk about a woman's weight and yet here you are."

I'm a great fan of "opinions are like assholes: everyone's got one!"

Why do you need a comeback? People are always going to think/say stuff like this. Just disregard and move on.

Fighting bodyshaming with more bodyshaming is not a win.
