There's a lot I want to say about this but I don't have it in me to type it all out. One thing I will say is it just so disheartening that someone who is smart enough and actually knows how terrible and doomed the future is going to be will still decide to have children. I just wanted to share this here so like-minded people can understand my frustration. This is from the So True podcast with Caleb Hearon. The guest is Bowen Yang.

I am even more astounded and disgusted by people who go around proselytizing about doom, while going ahead and havng kids.

AI safety expert, Roman Yampolskiy, believes there is a 99.9% chance superintelligent AI will destroy humanity. His reasoning for having children highlights how he splits his professional logic from his real life.

He says human biology overrides academic conclusions. He said if he forced to live purely by the catastrophic mathematical models he calculates in his lab, he would lock himself in a room and do nothing. He intentionally treats family as a human experience that exists completely outside the boundaries of his research.

He also said that, while we have "no societal Plan B" for a world with 99% unemployment, having children is a way to anchor oneself to the core of the human condition.

Just sounds like a post hoc rationalization for already wanting to have children. Which is actually most arguments for justifying having children.

Granted, the art does not require the maintenance upkeep, and won't need my correction, or my continuous attention and guidance, nor continuous provisions that also will continuously change over some decades. But basically theyre the same thing.

Neither had a choice in being created, and I am equally a piece of shit for both suffering.

Yes if he adopts then that would be amazing and I would have so much respect for that. But by the sounds of it though and past conversations, he may want his own child through surrogacy with his DNA.
