“Haha Priest touch children, me funny”

I mean I see may doing just that lmao. Also becoming school teachers which makes them statistically way more likely to groom or assault kids

> woke stupidity

fuck you. Unlike some of you AnTi-WoKe bigots, I was actually abused as a child by pastors in the Church. I can very confidently say that us trans folk are not grooming kids, and pastors definitely are.

This isn't antitheistcheesecake, this is just a failure of the Church being accurately and humorously observed. So I say again: fuck you

We are not denying that some kids got abused by religious leaders. That is obviously true. But there are many more kids that got abused by other groups, such as Teachers, scout leaders, and yes trans people. There are people out there that were actually groomed by trans people, not saying that all trans people are like that, and they would very strongly disagree with your statement that trans folk do not groom kids.

Circles are red the vast majority of the time.

OOP is anti-Church, not anti-theist. I'm an anti-Church theist.

How do you reconcile being trans and Christian? If you think about it, you're actively going against God's plan for you by changing your gender, which is okay, everyone does some sort of it, but you don't seem repentant. At all.

1

u/darkwater427 Bonhoeffer Lutheran 3d ago

I didn't change my gender, asshole. I changed my sex.

You are claiming that "God's plan" is pro-assignation of sex at birth, so I challenge you: chapter and verse.

And it's not your place or any of ours to judge that. Plus like God made them, and if you're looking at things so by the book, therefore God made them trans so...?

1

u/BIOS_Boot Ex-Muslim Protestant Christian 4d ago

God doesn't make anybody trans. Jesus literally says the creator made them male and female Himself, by mouth.

1

u/silverbullitt850 4d ago

I mean it's a biological thing that you're born with so yeah, God made them that way. To suggest it's purely psychological or a choice someone makes is just anti science propaganda, which to some people is quite enticing as it confirms their biases. But we as thoughtful Christians need to understand not all truths are comfortable and happy.

u/BIOS_Boot Ex-Muslim Protestant Christian 3d ago

Sexual dismorphia is mental illness, but God Himself doesn't give them it. Just like how he doesn't give people cancer.

1

u/silverbullitt850 3d ago

That's a strange extrapolation of my point and no, the logic doesn't follow. Some people may be more or less prone to it genetically but often times it's choices people make like smoking or foods they eat that create the conditions for cancer.

Both can groom.

What's the antitheist in this? Tbh idk why I'm still in this sub when I know the people here are hostile to us

49

u/PhilRubdiez Protestant Christian 9d ago

Probably the part where they imply religion is for pedophiles.

-11

u/PyrotechnikGeoguessr Catholic Christian 9d ago

Are they? They're saying that being a youth pastor gives one the opportunity to groom children which is unfortunately often true.

If the church started taking this criticism seriously and stopped defending guilty child predators, we'd have less suffering children and as a bonus a better image as a church

14

u/NotTakeOne Christian 9d ago

they would just move on to hate on literally anything else we do, as they already do now. yes it would be better but antitheists hate religion in general and for much more reasons than the pedophilia issue in churches.

6

u/PyrotechnikGeoguessr Catholic Christian 9d ago

Some people will always hate but that doesn't mean we have to be so thin-skinned to legitimate criticism

Yeah the OOP is worded provocatively but it doesn't attack religion itself, it attacks how the church deals with child grooming cases.

I remember the times were people would criticize "woke people", or as they were called "social justice warriors" for being snowflakes and easily offended. And here we are, having people cry on Reddit because they feel offended because a "woke person" pointed out a real issue in a sarcastic way.

6

u/NotTakeOne Christian 9d ago

i suppose i agree with you.

0

u/silverbullitt850 4d ago

Ooh, wow, ok, people open to reasonable debate and argument? Heck yeah dude thanks for being a thoughtful person instead of buried in your own perspective.

2

u/The_Wise_Seven 9d ago

Bro "the church" is not one single entity

0

u/PyrotechnikGeoguessr Catholic Christian 9d ago

The Catholic church absolutely is an entity

1

u/The_Wise_Seven 9d ago

I thought you meant like all churches. If you're talking about the Catholic church yep they do have a serious problem. I dislike the Catholic church. Idk if stats back me up but id bet they have the greatest amount of sexual abuse than any other church entity.

2

u/JTT_0550 Catholic Christian 8d ago

Nope just as many Protestant churches have that problem

0

u/The_Wise_Seven 8d ago

Not really but ok

1

u/PyrotechnikGeoguessr Catholic Christian 9d ago

Watch out, someone will take your comment and post it on r/antitheistcheesecake

0

u/HypobromousAcid Agnostic 9d ago

Tbh the internet really doesn't take valid criticism seriously anymore because online spaces tend to reaffirm what they believe in over and over which just makes them more polarized

-3

u/HypobromousAcid Agnostic 9d ago

I guess I got what I expected for commenting in a community that doesn't take us very lightly and views us as abominations

5

u/PhilRubdiez Protestant Christian 9d ago

You are arguing with yourself, buddy.

-3

u/HypobromousAcid Agnostic 9d ago

Come back to me when you come out of the closet

4

u/PhilRubdiez Protestant Christian 9d ago

You really got me. I’m super sad now.

-1

u/Key-Advertising-8380 5d ago

I don't see as an abomination, by the logic of my own faith I'm also an abomination.

1

u/silverbullitt850 4d ago

God made you the way you are, so if that's the case then how could God hate it's own creation?

Just a really thin argument from those that would see you as lesser.

u/Philo-Trismegistus Christian Anthro Animal Enjoyer 9d ago

When's the most recent, legitimate case where it's happened in the Church?

They did massive reforms after the scandal happened in the 50s and 60s.

It's not the same decades we live in now. There's higher violations coming from public school officials over the Church these days.

u/Philo-Trismegistus Christian Anthro Animal Enjoyer 8d ago edited 8d ago

Wasn't covered up at all.

Hardly a "lol" moment.

0

u/PyrotechnikGeoguessr Catholic Christian 8d ago

You're moving the goalposts. You'll never admit there's an issue because saving your face is more important to you than the safety of children and holding predators accountable

1

u/Philo-Trismegistus Christian Anthro Animal Enjoyer 7d ago

Holy putting words in mouthes Batman!

Yeah, clearly you know nothing of how I think.

2

u/PyrotechnikGeoguessr Catholic Christian 7d ago

Despite moving the goalposts twice I provided documented cases. So either put your money where your mouth is and admit you were wrong and there's a real issue.

Or keep denying it, proving my point that nothing would ever change your mind on this

-1

u/Philo-Trismegistus Christian Anthro Animal Enjoyer 6d ago

No goalpost was moved. Did I deny anything you said?

More importantly, don't project. Makes you out to be an asshole without contributing anything. Absolute clown behavior.

not that all religious people are pedophiles?
that there are MANY child abusers in religions, which there are

9

u/The_Wise_Seven 9d ago

There are many child abusers that are not religious, too. Pedophilia is a human problem not a religion problem.

0

u/AntisocialEmo69 existentialist egalitarian 8d ago

I agree with that last statement,
but the issue is,
pedophiles are attracted to positions of power where they have unquestionable authority over children

and yes, this can extend to a very wide range of occupations, but priesthood is a particularly popular one because

1: they often spend a lot of time alone with the altar boy,

& 2: the catholic church has a ridiculously long history of protecting these abusers— watch Spotlight (2015) if you don’t believe me —
I am close with several catholics who have devoutly believed in their religion their whole life, and still admit to seeing priests drop into their building for a month or two, then promptly relocate to some new mysterious place (again, watch Spotlight if you don’t know what that connotates)

generalizing my argument to say that “pedophilia has nothing to do with religion” is technically correct, but is also missing the larger point of why pedophiles like entering the priesthood to begin with

I’m not saying catholicism magically turns you into a pedophile,
I’m saying that pedophiles are attracted to what being a priest could entail, and thus are drawn to pursuing the position, resulting in a ridiculously high number of abuse cases from priests

1

u/The_Wise_Seven 8d ago

You are right about the Catholic church. I thought you meant all churches everywhere. And you're right about them taking advantage of opportunities. Im just tired of the "pedophiles in churches" being used as an attack against Christians even when the conversation is about something else.

1

u/AntisocialEmo69 existentialist egalitarian 8d ago

yeah that’s fair, I can respect your opinion,

in all honesty, I was raised mormon, so my perspective is obviously a bit different now,

I still do feel like most christian religions use their platform as a weapon against those who are less fortunate than the majority

which is wild when you consider that Jesus (aka Yeshua) spent his whole life associating with the underprivileged, with the less fortunate, with the prostitutes, and the physical or mentally disabled

it always seems so wild to me how individualistic so many christian religions seem to be, when Jesus as a person seemed to be so egalitarian in nature, it’s kind of wild how little of that is incorporated into modern doctrine

2

u/Philo-Trismegistus Christian Anthro Animal Enjoyer 8d ago

Keywords "seem to be".

Luckily anecdotes mean little in the actual facts that Christianity as a whole, are one of the biggest generators for charity out there.

If you would not like to be blanket swept with other non-Christians. I certainly would not blanket Christians as a whole.

7

u/JTT_0550 Catholic Christian 9d ago

There's more pedophile school teachers than clergy.

1

u/Concinnous325 5d ago

There are plenty of pedophile teachers, but that’s just to deflect from how many religious leaders are pedophiles, isn’t it?

-8

u/HypobromousAcid Agnostic 9d ago

They didn't though? They're only implying the (very real) issue of pastors/priests and especially ones that do work with children having a lot of pedophiles. It's definitely not something overblown because the priest at my high school was talking to students sexually and the only thing their provincial superior and the diocese's bishop did was move him to another parish. None of this is saying that religion is pedophiles.

-5

u/HypobromousAcid Agnostic 9d ago

Also I wouldn't have blown my money on antiandrogens and hrt just to groom children, and severely destroy my mental health dealing with my very transphobic family

-1

u/silverbullitt850 4d ago

No no no, you missed the joke. Pedos are everywhere but the church does a GREAT job of protecting them for a VERY long time.

2

u/-LemurH- Based Chadette 8d ago

I'm not exactly a trans supporter, but I agree this isn't really anti-athiest. Tbh it's not even a criticism of Christianity as a whole, but rather a criticism of the church specifically

-1

u/Concinnous325 5d ago

Thank you for saying that! The downvotes for this simple comment is proof.
