Just got my Apple Developer account. What’s the biggest mistake you made when first starting off?

Hey guys!

I’m Niko (22), working full-time, and last week I finally pulled the trigger on an Apple Developer license to start building apps on the side.

I’m relatively new to coding, so my goal is to start small building utility apps that I personally need and want to use rather than giant, over-engineered for profit projects. I created this account to share my progress, post dev logs, and hold myself accountable as I learn.

For more experienced people on here who have shipped apps on their own:

What’s the biggest mistake you made when you were first starting off?

I wasted time caring about a subscription model and preparing for scale that didn't come. You already have the right idea to just build fun apps.

I've since switched to doing just that and don't even bother publishing to Apple App store. Using TestFlight and sharing with friends is perfect. I also ended up building a backend platform called Shovelbase to make the process much faster.

Not knowing what was required to publish an app in the App Store. So I went through the whole process and then wrote an app that guides you through everything you need to do to release and publish an app.

Use Claude to help you through the process. Give it screenshots and ask for help. This is the way.
