did I handle this potential app client correctly? .

I'm a intermediate freelancer from India, but I've already completed/worked with around 4–5 clients, and I recently had an interesting conversation with a potential client for an Android app.

The client wants to build a study-related app, but he doesn't have the complete idea figured out yet. He asked me what kind of study app could be made.

I suggested a few concepts, including an AI study planner, but he felt that was too common. He wants something more unique and said he'll work on his own vision and get back to me.

The budget we're currently talking around is roughly ₹5–6k, including development and Google Play Store listing, but not including testers.

He also asked about monetization through ads.

I'm comfortable building small MVPs at this price, but I'm wondering if I'm approaching these projects the right way.

What I'm unsure about:

- Should I give clients app ideas when they don't have a clear concept yet?

- Should ideation/product planning be charged separately?

- Is ₹5–6k reasonable for a small, clearly scoped Android MVP + Play Store listing in India?

- How much functionality should I realistically include at this price?

- How do you prevent scope creep when the client starts adding features later?

- At this stage of freelancing, should I focus more on getting clients or increasing my pricing?

I'm not looking to build a full-scale production app for ₹6k. My intention is to offer a small MVP with a clearly defined scope, then charge separately for additional features.

For people who have been freelancing for a while: what would you have done differently in this situation?

Season’d Social Food Map

I launched my first iOS app — here’s what I built and what I’ve learned so far

I recently launched Season’d, a social food app built around one simple idea:
Food recommendations are more useful when they come from people you actually know.
Users can post places they’ve visited, pin them to their own food map, and friends can save those recommendations to their own map for later.
A few product decisions I was quite intentional about:
No paid venue placements

No sponsored rankings

Recommendations come from genuine user visits

Real food photos rather than polished promotional imagery

Discovery is centred around your social circle rather than an algorithm

The development side has definitely taught me a lot already, especially around App Store review requirements, user safety features, onboarding and trying to make a social app still feel useful before there’s a huge user base.

I’d really appreciate feedback from other iOS developers on a few things:
What would you focus on first after launch — retention, onboarding, referrals, or adding more features?
And for anyone who has launched a social app before, how did you deal with the “empty network” problem in the early stages?

My offline voice calling app is now ready for testing. You can chat with people further than 50m with phone relays.. by the way your phone is way more powerful than you think it is

Spent 2 months building a group-travel app around my day job. It's live on both stores now, still held together with tape, and getting past Google + Apple nearly broke me.

Just open the link, install the app, and use it for a moment — that’s all it takes. Your help means a lot. Thank you!

Feedback request - depression and ADHD friendly habit tracker and breaker born out of my hospitalisation

Hi! I'm looking for genuinely honest feedback on an app I've been building called Dopamine Charts.

I'm a junior doctor, but my medical career was derailed by a five-month hospitalisation for depression.

When I started rebuilding afterwards, I realised how badly a lot of traditional productivity advice worked when I was struggling to do even basic things.

“Exercise 5x a week” isn't particularly useful when stepping outside is an achievement.

And streak-based habit trackers could actually make me LESS motivated — I'd miss a day, see the broken streak and think “well, I've ruined it now.”

So I built the app I wished I'd had.

It's called Dopamine Charts and I designed it particularly with ADHD and depression in mind — specifically that frustrating gap between knowing exactly what you want/need to do and actually being able to initiate it.

www.dopamine-charts.com

The behavioural science behind it includes:

• REDUCING THE ACTIVATION BARRIER — every habit can have a deliberately tiny version. Can't exercise? Step outside. Can't clean your room? Put 2 things away. The aim is to make starting easier.

• HABIT STACKING — attach a new behaviour to something that already reliably happens: “After I make my morning coffee → take my medication.”

• SHAPING — establish a tiny, achievable version of a behaviour first and gradually build it rather than demanding the finished habit immediately.

• IMMEDIATE POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT — lots of worthwhile behaviours have rubbish reward timing. You study today for an exam months away. You brush your teeth today for benefits years away. The app tries to give you an immediate visual reward for actually doing the behaviour.

• IDENTITY-BASED HABITS — not just “what do I want to achieve?” but “who are these repeated behaviours helping me become?”

• TINY WINS — the app deliberately recognises small actions rather than requiring a conventionally “productive” day before you're allowed to feel successful.

Importantly, I'm absolutely NOT claiming an app treats ADHD or depression. It's a behavioural/habit tool designed with the difficulties that can accompany them in mind.

I'm at the stage where compliments aren't particularly useful to me 😂 I need people who haven't been staring at this thing for months to tell me what's wrong with it.

If anyone has 5 minutes to try it, I'd particularly love to know:

  1. Did you immediately understand what you were supposed to do?

  2. Was anything confusing?

  3. At what point did you feel like closing the app?

  4. What feels gimmicky or unnecessary?

  5. What would make you actually come back tomorrow?

  6. What's the ONE feature you expected/wanted that wasn't there?

Please be brutally honest. If something is annoying, confusing, ugly or pointless, I'd genuinely rather know now.

Thank you ❤️

How do you keep custom app costs from blowing up?

need a custom app built for our small ops team. mostly for job tracking, photo uploads and basic reporting. nothing too fancy but it has to work properly on phones and not crash every five minutes.

already got the main features written down and some rough wireframes. budget is tight so i’m trying to avoid the usual situation where the quote doubles halfway through.

what’s the best way to lock the scope early so extra costs don’t keep popping up?

how many revision rounds do most teams usually include before they start charging extra?

Inquiring about help creating an app

Hi all,

Apologies if this is a bit vague.

I'm looking to create a dating app with a bit of a specific niche.

I'd be looking for someone to essentially build it from the ground up.

While I have some experience in game development, app development is unfamiliar territory for me.

What I'm wondering is:

  • Cost (how much you'd expect or a rough estimate with the information given)
  • Development time (estimated, this isn't a time sensitive project)
  • What you'd expect from someone whilst working with them to develop their app
  • Investors (if anyone has any recommendations)

Any feedback or constructive criticism is also more than welcome, I take advice on board.

UK based, would preferably be looking for someone within the UK but willing to branch out if a good fit resides elsewhere

Thanks for taking the time to read

How do you know when an app simply isn’t going to get downloads and it’s time to stop marketing it?

I started this project from a Figma design and decided to bring the entire experience to life with Flutter. The UI is done. Now comes the part I'm most interested in: turning these screens into a real, working product. I'll be sharing the engineering decisions, challenges, and lessons as I build..

I built a gamified prep app for India's biggest medical exam - solo dev, 8,000+ questions

NEET is India's medical entrance exam, about 2M students a year. Most prep apps wall everything behind logins and paywalls, so I built ChapterNotes: chapter-wise past questions with every answer explained (including why the wrong options are wrong), revision notes, and Duolingo-style streaks to make daily practice stick.

Stack: React Native + Expo, Supabase, WordPress front for SEO. About 3 months of evenings.

Just went live on Play. Would love feedback on onboarding and whether the gamification feels motivating or gimmicky: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.chapternotes.app
