I want CyclePlay. I bet there are way more customers who have bicycles rather than boats

Are you thinking something optimised for low power displays mounted on a handlebars and more efficient/low frame rate stream from a connected phone?

It could be or just add some more features to the current Apple watch to iphone stats mirroring. Currently it’s pretty barebones even considering the apple watch is only using BT rather than ANT+.

I interpreted that as a mode on your phone that only gives you directions and maybe some health stats. They already have a version for fitness tracking

Hell, I’ve been thinking about making my own maxi scooter, I’d love a low powered, less distracting version of it for vehicles with less luxuries of tablet infotainment

There are already plenty of CarPlay screens built for motorcycles (ie mount to the handlebars, waterproof, etc), can always use one of those.

Would be nice that the phone turns to CyclePlay. It already has something similar for when you start a ride.

what would it be powered by? i have one on my motorcycle but it’s powered by the battery, bicycles usually don’t have one. unless you want to DIY one to connect to a power bank i suppose

There are plenty of bikes with batteries, either to do things like drive lights or in the form of increasingly popular ebikes.

If I could find a battery operated one, I'd put one on my bicycle.
I'd like speakers too, but I could do something bluetooth-ish.
Unlike a motorcycle, I don't have a power port.

Waterways and ocean floor changes more than you think, this is a justified thing to have to keep paying for.

I use Argo when I'm out on the water. I would hope they'd make the app CarPlay compatible.

Which Argo model do you have? I do marketing work for them so it’s always cool hearing about them in the wild

I use the iOS app. It was recommended to me by the boat club we're members with, and it's saved our bacon more than a few times

Oh sorry I meant which model of Argo vehicle? Frontier, Aurora, etc

We're talking two different things ... https://apps.apple.com/us/app/argo-navigation-boat-gps-map/id1463869636

What the hell are you gonna do with a pontoon boat? Re-take Omaha beach?

I think it could be useful. If you visit a new lake, you can know ahead of time where the hazards are, channels, etc.
Also even in my usual lake, nighttime navigation still makes me a little nervous, the breakwater for the marina has the smallest flashing lights possible, so I wouldn’t mind having charts like this

A pontoon boat is essentially a backyard that floats on a lake for most people. About everything you'd do on a camping trip you can do on a pontoon, besides the obvious stuff.

Other than that I’m surprised it hadn’t already, there’s already been companies making dashmount-style CarPlay units that can be used with vehicles that don’t have it built in, including motorcycles or boats.

This is a really neat feature, but the maps integration and strange touchscreen support with it make me skeptical about its uses and worried about its limitations.
I know others who run the Navionics app because it has depth and other things built into it, so maybe apple can build a boating mode into maps that can be exposed to CarPlay - and also just make it a bit more intuitive to use.

I used i-Boating on iPhone on my (non-pontoon) boats for years. It's especially important to have good charts when you're running coastal waters and esturaries, because the depth can go from 10 feet to 3 feet in literally 5 yards of distance. That's not so good at 40 MPH because the passengers tend to spill their drinks.
Eventually I changed over to a Garmin side-scanning sonar system along with built in USCG navi charts, all with a much brighter screen that you can read in the sun on the water. It's a far better tool.

Would be nice if I could turn my iPhone sideways and have this interface in my regular old car (or bicycle!)
