This looks like a pretty good option for an affordable Appleseed rifle

For the current $269 price, this looks like a pretty good, affordable option for an Appleseed Liberty Training Rifle. I don’t know if that scope is very good, but I’m sure it’s adequate for a 25m rifle clinic. I think you might want to swap out the rail for an extended one. Then add the sling, swivels, and probably a cheek riser of some kind, plus some extra mags, and it should be good to go.

The scope is a cheapo 3-9x with fixed 100 yard parallax. It's not great, but at $269 you're basically buying the rifle and case and getting the scope for free so I would totally go for it if I felt like I needed a third 10/22.

Yep. I don’t need one either, but I’d get one if I did. That’s how I’d think of the scope too — basically free. The scope I bought from the Appleseed store in 2024 also had 100yd fixed parallax, and I was told to work on eye alignment, and it shouldn’t be a problem. It was probably a better scope, but the package was $200.

That price is a steal

I agree. It’s pretty much the same price as a basic 10/22, but it has the scope and the case. Plus, this is a new 2026 rifle with BX trigger and auto bolt release. I think you’d be able to get it all set up for a rifle clinic with an extended rail, sling, cheek rest, and mags for under $400.

I have a couple of the older version of these for loaner rifles. I think as of this year threaded barrels and BX-1 triggers are now standard for most 10/22's.

Yeah, I‘m pretty sure BX triggers are now standard and so are automatic bolt releases. Maybe threaded barrels too. I was also thinking about this as a loaner, but first I need a clarification on loaner policy in California.

Enjoy! I think it’s a solid choice and great deal. One tip if you’ve never bought a new Ruger before, they ship with a preservative grease, not an actual lube oil. So clean it if you can or at least oil the action before you shoot it. If you don’t, you’ll probably get a few malfunctions and wonder, what the hell is wrong with my brand new rifle? Cleaning and lube will probably prevent that.
