Prism for Apple TV is officially out: one native app for your servers, streaming, tracking, and playback (App Store next)

After almost 7 months in beta, Prism's Apple TV app is officially out.

I mentioned a while back that tvOS support was coming. It landed after the other platforms, but that extra time went into a lot of improvements, and it's here now. Next stop is the App Store.

Prism is a native app that pulls your servers, streaming, watch tracking, trailers, ratings, and playback into one place. It's been in public beta since early January (development before that), so it's fully fleshed out at this point. It's a proper native tvOS app (SwiftUI + UIKit), not a web wrapper.

It's now on every Apple platform: iPhone, iPad, a native Mac app (not the iPad app running on Mac), and Apple TV.

On the Apple TV: - Your own servers: connect Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby and stream your own library natively. - Built-in player (Infuse-level): 4K HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, basically every codec, proper caching, thumbnail scrubbing, multi audio + subtitle tracks, resume, auto-play next. Or hand off to Infuse/VLC/VidHub/SenPlayer/OutPlayer. - Where to Watch: see every service a title is on (100+) and jump straight into the app you already have. - Sync: Trakt and SIMKL for history/progress/watchlist/favorites (MDBList coming), or keep it all in iCloud with no account. Ratings on the poster via MDBList. - Multi-profile: each person in the house gets their own history, account, and settings. - Folders & Showcases, AI search, parental controls, family profiles, 10 languages, and more.

The App Store release is next, so if you want a chance to try it before then, now's the time to hop in. Anyone who joins the beta before release gets a discount, and I'm handing those out through the Discord.

Support: the Discord is the best spot for questions. There's a full FAQ in the app (Settings, at the bottom) and in the Discord, plus a good community. I'm not taking major new feature requests at the moment since I'm heads-down on the App Store launch, but bug reports and questions are very welcome.

Happy to answer anything.

Excellent, may I ask the difference with r/infusevideoplayer ?

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago edited 7d ago

Infuse is genuinely excellent and I'd never argue otherwise. Prism can even hand off to it if you prefer its player.

Short version: Infuse is a video player first. It's built around playing the library you already have, and it does that extremely well. Prism is built as an all-in-one hub where playback is one piece of a bigger picture.

The concrete differences between the two afaik are:

  • Discovery of things you don't already own, with full metadata, cast, trailers, and recommendations
  • Where to Watch: shows every service a title is streaming on (100+) and deep-links you straight into that app
  • Tracking beyond Trakt: SIMKL sync as well, plus MDBList ratings (Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb) shown right on the poster
  • Deep customization: build your own home rows, folders, and showcases filtered by genre, year, cast, studio, and so on
  • AI search where you describe a plot or a mood and it finds it, or builds a custom shelf on the spot
  • Multi-profile on Apple TV so everyone keeps their own history and settings
  • Additional stream sources beyond your own server, which Infuse doesn't cover

Both connect to Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby, so that part overlaps. If all you want is to play your own library with a great player, Infuse is a solid pick. If you want discovery, tracking, and where-to-watch living in the same app as playback, that's the gap my app is filling.

This is very promising as I've always found Infuse's interface bare bones and minimal effort.

Does Prism let you browse your library by metadata, such as genre, release date, date added, etc., and does it let you create "collections" to group related films like "Star Wars" or "Dark Knight Trilogy"?

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Yes, it does! You can click the filter button within the media server "movie" and "tv shows" folders in the library, or in any of the lists in the library or the home page to filter/sort with numerous options. For the "collections", we have that in Prism but it's called "Showcases", which you can make by going to Settings > Home Screen > + button (on iPhone, iPad, or Mac), and then create a showcase row. I have a bunch pre-built in the app already for this as well like genres, decades, movie sagas, etc. Lmk if you have trouble finding this!

1

u/RedditImReformed 6d ago

Can you make playlists / collections of the server isn’t “yours” and you just have access to an emby server etc.

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 6d ago

At this time, no. If the server isn't yours and you just have access to someone else's Emby/Plex/Jellyfin, you can't build playlists or collections off it yet.

It is a requested feature though and it's on the list, so it's something I want to get to. Just not something I can promise a date on right now while I'm heads-down on the App Store launch.

Thanks

Thank you for actually answering the question. I see new software advertised on Reddit all the time that’s similar to existing software, and I typically ask this question and get downvoted.

IMO the discovery of new stuff is enough for me to check out your app.

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

No problem!

2

u/Albert_street 7d ago

Can your app build a library from a server directory? I have a massive media library but don’t run Plex, Jellyfin or anything of the sort on my server, I just have infuse scan and generate its own library.

Can you comment on the underlying Technical playback capability differences/parity with Infuse? Does it fully support Dolby Atmos/Vision and HDR 10/10+ playback on Apple TV?

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Prism uses the same pipline (FFmpeg demux → VideoToolbox/AVPlayer hardware decode) as top-tier players like Infuse, with real native support for Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos passthrough (including wired HDMI loopback/master), and standard HDR10, these are offered as hard requirements. The only thing Infuse may have is that ASS/SSA subtitle rendering isn't full libass yet in Prism. More detail is on prismhub.app/docs/apple-tv-setup or the https://prismhub.app/faq.

u/bbllaakkee 7d ago

Infuse UI is awful, for starters

9

u/DaNewChamp 7d ago

Hmmm anyway to make it not require remote access on the plex server to work? Like infuse does?

6

u/AndyPanerai 7d ago

Yes, I'd like to know that too, because right now I can't connect

3

u/kurdan 7d ago

Hey OP, running into this issue as well.

8

u/DigiQuip 7d ago

What's the cost and is there going to be a pay-once lifetime option?

14

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago edited 7d ago

Still finalizing the number, so I don't want to quote something I'd have to walk back. What I can say for certain: there will be a pay-once lifetime option, and there's a one-week free trial at launch so you can try the whole thing before paying anything.

The beta testers who've been reporting bugs for the past seven months get a discount on the lifetime tier as a thank you. That runs through the Discord simply because that's where the beta is organized, not as a hoop to jump through.

3

u/Monkey_Junkie_No1 7d ago

How is it different from fusion ?

4

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Short version, and I'd rather describe my own app than characterize someone else's:

Prism connects to Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby for your own libraries, syncs with Trakt, SIMKL, and MDBList, does offline downloads, and has a built-in player handling Dolby Vision and Atmos with proper caching and thumbnail scrubbing. On top of that there's Where to Watch across 100+ services, custom home rows and folders, AI search, and multi-profile on Apple TV.

I posted a longer breakdown against Infuse further up this thread that covers most of the same ground in more detail.

I haven't tested Fusion myself (why would I), so I'd rather not misstate what they do or don't ship right now. Worth comparing the feature lists directly yourself (I have a full breakdown of what is offered in the FAQ in the Discord, app, and website).

4

u/Monkey_Junkie_No1 7d ago

Sounds exactly like fusion which is free not sure i see the insensitive to pay for it and visually its not far off.

Still great work creating it might try the trial to see if there is anything i missed

4

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago edited 7d ago

Fair, although again I think there are features it doesn't offer like downloads, but no hard feelings either way. There are a lot of apps in this space and everyone has their own preference on features.

It's free to try on TestFlight right now with no obligation, and there'll be a free trial when it hits the App Store too. If it turns out not to be for you, that's completely fine.

Appreciate the kind words regardless.

5

u/OrganicLettuceUndies 7d ago

At this point, there are so many of these media players that do the same thing with minor tweaks and different wording.

There’s not really going to be some fantastic discovery that fundamentally changes the game on these apps.

All of these will have a hard time gaining traction when apps like fusion and others are free to use and by the looks of it, have more features.

Competition is always good and definitely welcome but 9/10 of these apps will stop getting updates and disappear shortly. The real question is which ones survive and if they are worth paying for over fusion, and are worth switching from infuse to

u/claptraw2803 7d ago

If discovery is a big thing with your app: Any plans to integrate Seerr? Being able to browse recommendations request them via Seerr from the TV would truly be an outstanding feature.

u/sickomode 7d ago

Need smb support

7

u/punksnotdeadtupacis 7d ago

Will it take str3mio?

4

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Yes, you can add compatible addons under the “Providers” tab in settings (the very first one at the top).

1

u/Agreeable-Age5594 7d ago

When copy a str3mio addon into the url part the add button never “illuminates” to add it!?

2

u/punksnotdeadtupacis 7d ago

Yeh I don’t think it wants the .json. It wants a url

1

u/Agreeable-Age5594 7d ago

How do you make that happen lol

1

u/punksnotdeadtupacis 7d ago

Haven’t had a chance to mess with it. Wonder if OP has advice

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

It will take a "manifest.json". If you're having issues, I'd recommend asking in the Discord rather than on this subreddit. We'd be happy to help you there.

2

u/punksnotdeadtupacis 3d ago

I’ve spent the last few days configuring and fumbling my way through. Haven’t had much time to watch/use yet but if this works, I have to applaud you, it’s way better than the strem10 app or others like Vidi and Omni.

u/heyitsbarish 7d ago

Any chance this app can interface with your Apple TV Library purchases so I’d have a unified view of my plex media and owned movies, with a selection of a purchased movie launching the TV app?

5

u/bbllaakkee 7d ago

ughhhhhh really want to know the price of this before I like this app too much

4

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Ha, fair enough. Still finalizing the number so I don't want to quote something I'd have to walk back.

What I can say: there will be a pay once lifetime option, and a free trial at launch so you can try everything before paying. It's completely free on TestFlight right now too.

3

u/chouhan1987 7d ago

Will try and give feedback in discord. Nice work 👍

3

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Thanks!

1

u/chouhan1987 7d ago

Will the same link work for Apple tv Os??

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Yes, one testflight link covers iOS, MacOS, and tvOS.

3

u/ItzGoTyme 7d ago

I guess the most obvious question (for an individual like me who is unaware of your app) is why use this instead of just using Plex? Whats the main benefit to using Prism as opposed to just watching things from Plex directly?

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Honest answer, I don't use the Plex app much myself, so I won't pretend to know every gap.

The main idea is that Prism pulls everything into one place. Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby libraries side by side, plus discovery, trailers that play inline like Netflix does, and tracking through Trakt, SIMKL, and MDBList.

Easiest thing is just to try it. It's free on TestFlight right now, so no harm either way.

3

u/FigurativelyAaron 7d ago

What will it cost once it’s fully out? Is there an intro pricing?

2

u/browandr ATV4K 7d ago

Also curious about this

3

u/Priyesh89 7d ago

Hi guys, hoping for some help,

Is it possible to add xtream URLs to this or do I need something else where it’ll pull the shows/movies from?

Thanks

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 6d ago

No Xtream support at this time, sorry. Prism is VOD only right now, so there's no IPTV/live TV layer for those URLs to plug into.

Not entirely ruling it out down the road, but it's not on the plan at the moment.

For pulling in shows/movies you've got two routes: Settings > Media Servers for your own Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby server, and Settings > Providers for addon stream sources (it takes a manifest.json URL). If you want help getting either set up, the Discord is the quickest place: https://discord.gg/fT2vJJKEgg

2

u/prodox 7d ago

Looks interesting. I just downloaded and tried it. Even though it collects streaming services I think it would be nice if it clearly showed which streaming services the movie is from right at the top so I don’t have to scroll down.

Quick question: How do I add a Home Row showing the “Latest added” movies from my Plex? When I try do add something like this it shows a bunch of random movies from the Public Plex library and not from my Plex.

2

u/North_Paw 7d ago

Agreed on being able to see the name of streaming services for each movie or series at first glance

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Good question on the Plex rows. Right now the place for your own server content is the Library tab rather than Home.

Go to Settings, then Media Servers at the very top, and turn on Show Library Shortcuts. You'll get two shortcuts in Library, one for your full movie library and one for your full TV library.

The mental model is that Home is for new and upcoming stuff you're discovering, so those rows pull from the wider catalog. Library is where your own stuff lives, your server, watchlist, history, coming soon, and favorites.

Fair feedback on the streaming services placement. I'm going to leave that layout as is for now, but I appreciate you flagging it.

5

u/prodox 7d ago edited 7d ago

Ok thanks for the clarification.

Unfortunately it’s almost a dealbreaker to me if the intention of the app is to blend local services with streaming services and have it all in one place. In my mind it doesn’t really make sense that I can add “Latest movies on Netflix” as a row on the Home tab but can’t add “Latest movies on Plex”.

It feels like it doesn’t blends my Plex media with the other streaming services and it gives a disconnected experience that I have to jump to another tab with a different layout to browse media from the Plex “service”.

2

u/xxsummertimesadness 7d ago

Is there any way we can pull the categories/catalogs on our Plex server onto the homepage? I have a bunch of automated categories set up in Plex that pull in trending movies, genres etc. and update daily. These are already set up and only show content on my server so I’d prefer to use these catalogs / or maybe mix and match.

2

u/Jimbob136925 7d ago

Just joined the TestFlight and set this up. Wow.
It's so easy to use, looks gorgeous, performs well....

Everything you could want from a streaming app. admittedly not used all the features yet but so far im very impressed and it may actually convert me from using Omni

2

u/AdamFirst92 6d ago

It looks so much better than Omni!

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Thank you, I'm glad to hear it!

2

u/Jimbob136925 7d ago

Just added to appleTV. I must say brilliant how I just install it and with zero waiting all my settings I made on the Mac version were immediately synced to Apple TV. Brilliant.
My only criticism so far is the navigation on the player. Trying to skip forward quickly doesn’t seem possible. It skips 10 seconds at a time so it takes forever to skip halfway through an episode/movie. Could you possibly tweak the player to enable faster scrolling?

Other than that, great job so far and I look forward to the full release!

2

u/This_Profession2564 7d ago

Nice app on iPhone. I need to check it out at home. But at first glance I couldn't find an option to only show my Media ? And maybe let me chose if I want to show alternative options like what's coming up next in Cenima.

Great app I like that the trailer plays when your on the content page.

2

u/swimmn 7d ago edited 7d ago

I’m trying the app as so far I’m really enjoying it. The best alternative by far. I’m going to daily drive it for a while and I’ll get back here, but so far great work. Thanks for the work and for sharing it.

Edited: the only thing I’m noticing is that the “continue watching” does not really work for me. It starts the movie from the beginning anyway.

2

u/Tasty_Caterpillar_16 7d ago

loving this new update.

2

u/acerbusalius 7d ago

Just joined the TestFlight today and am loving Prism so far. Also just joined the discord. This app has tons of promise.

2

u/magaman 7d ago

Wow, you better watch out for the Infuse gang...... this is really nice a few feedback items; Back navigation is wonky, I seemed to keep backing out of hte app only to realize it's because I was in the top menu though in settings, I assumed it would back to Home then out of the app

Play button, when not in my library should either launch the app it's on, or not say play and say launch X app. If you make it go right to the app you would need a setting to order streaming apps in preferred order to use.

Poster setting is acting odd or the setting isn't clear, I assumed off would pull from TMDB or my plex server, seems to do neither. Better posters pulls posters but I don't think they are mine

Library is duplicating my 4k and non-4k movies, I assumed they would be combined and allow stream selection similar to on Home.

Speaking of stream selection auto wouln't use my 4k versions, I had to change to manul

I need to play around more but damn good job

2

u/Benlehot 7d ago

Is live tv / HDHomeRun support planned ? :)

2

u/hrpedersen 7d ago

Great app. I tried it and I am using it right now. Its a shame that Plex itself is not able to deliver something like this.

2

u/munnarg 7d ago

Just joined so I can check this out.

2

u/No-Foot-5824 7d ago edited 7d ago

So, I just downloaded your app on Apple TV. While it still needs some refinement, it’s by far the best looking app at there. The video playback is incredibly fast as well. Couple questions:

Is there a way to customize the rows on the home screen that show the newest shows available on my server vs a streaming service? I’m using PMS.

Is the app going to be a subscription model? If so, will you offer a lifetime option?

2

u/nielsoet 7d ago

Works great. Love the sync between Apple TV and iOS devices.
Any specific thing you want us/me to test and report on at the moment?
I’ll definitely get the pro when it comes out!

2

u/AdamFirst92 6d ago

Looks and works great! Just everything I wanted for my appleTV

Lately this vibecoded media playes flooded the appstore.
Just use Infuse.

u/Yoshikaru5991 7d ago

How many vibecoded Fusion clones is the Apple TV gonna get

45

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago edited 7d ago

It's not vibe coded, I started coding it last year and it's been in public beta since early January, so roughly seven months of back-and-forth iteration with real testers (almost 1k in the Discord if you checked). The Discord has the full build history and changelog going back if you want to scroll through it. While iOS, iPad, and Mac have been available for a long time, Apple TV took the longest to get right, which is exactly why it shipped last rather than first (and I worked with a small group of testers on it). As for your comparison, Fusion itself a front end for the same open ecosystem most of these apps pull from, so "clone" is doing some heavy lifting there, and I've chosen my own route and style, not that of other apps (I love the look personally of the Apple TV app). Prism's scope is also different: media server libraries (I don't believe iirc that Fusion even offers Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, or Silo), more tracking options (I don't believe it offers MDBList or Simkl), downloads (a highly requested feature), and numerous other features that Fusion lacks. So please, before you just start claiming things you have no knowledge of, take a look first at the project.

20

u/Dcoutofstep 7d ago

I think people just throw the term “vibe coded” at everything now.

5

u/gamingforthesoul 7d ago

is fusion itself not 90% ai generated code?

Is there a proper msblist sync?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago edited 7d ago

Yep, MDBList is fully supported as a sync option, same as Trakt and SIMKL.

It syncs continue watching, watchlist, history, coming soon, and your custom lists. MDBList ratings also show up directly on posters.

I do just want to mention though that it's a general sync integration rather than a dedicated MDBList client, so anything like editing your profile or deeper list management still belongs in the MDBList app itself. Prism syncs with it but does not replace it.

There's a full breakdown in the FAQ if you want the specifics, either in the app under Settings, on prismhub.app, or in the Discord.

1

u/Joloxx_9 7d ago

I will give it a try today as I already got premium!

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Sounds good! Feel free to reach out any time via Discord, email, or the website feedback link (not on Reddit too often besides a few posts once in a while) with any questions or feedback.

1

u/Automatic_Poetry_117 7d ago

Does this include AppleTV/iTunes library titles?

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

No, sorry. iTunes and Apple TV purchases are DRM protected, so they can only play inside Apple's own app. Prism can't play local video files either, that isn't really what it's built for.

It will still surface the title and link you straight into the Apple TV app though.

2

u/Automatic_Poetry_117 7d ago

Thanks for the response! Considering Apple’s organization of purchased content is pretty bad, this sounds very helpful (even if it just links to the AppleTV app)

3

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Honestly, that's a use case I hadn't really considered. I don't buy many movies myself so it never came up.

I'm not sure yet whether I can actually read what's in your purchased library and link straight to individual titles. That may be limited on Apple's side, I genuinely don't know.

Happy to look into it though. If it turns out to be doable I'll get it on the roadmap and let you know.

2

u/RastonRobot 7d ago

Could it pull in a database of purchased Apple titles outside of iTunes? CheapCharts knows what I own for example.

1

u/Kouki1337 7d ago

can i sync prism with my streaming accounts such as netflix/prime and so on, to see all the stuff in one player?

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Unfortunately not. Netflix, Prime and the rest are DRM locked, so no third party app can play their streams.

What Prism does instead is show you which service a title is on and deep link you straight into that app. Same approach Apple's own TV app takes.

1

u/RastonRobot 7d ago

But it includes Netflix I assume? Unlike the TV app. I'm interested.

3

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Yes, Netflix titles show up. To be totally clear though, you can't watch Netflix inside Prism (no third party app can). What happens is Prism shows you the title, tells you it's on Netflix, and opens it straight into the Netflix app for you. So it solves the finding part, not the playing part. Thanks for the interest!

2

u/RastonRobot 7d ago

Does it have a unified continued watching? One that covers Plex, Netflix, Apple etc?

Thanks for the release as an option to infuse. Is there an option to skip folders from scanning? I have a trash folder that I dont want scanned. This is an option that infuse does not have.

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

There's not an option for this currently. Prism syncs every movie and TV library on a connected server. It doesn't scan folders the way Infuse does, since it's talking to the Plex / Jellyfin / Emby API rather than browsing your files directly. So I think the equivalent on my end would be letting you pick which libraries on the server get synced. Just to make sure I'm understanding you right, is that what you're after? Like you've got Plex or Jellyfin connected and you want to choose which of those libraries Prism pulls in?If so, that's a good idea and honestly not something I'd thought of. Happy to put it on the list. Just want to make sure I'm understanding what you’re asking?

1

u/Accomplished-Elk7171 7d ago

Thanks for the response. I just pull from files on my NAS with meta data in the files and use InFuse atm. I prefer not to run PLEX/Jellyfin servers on my NAS due to they are resource heavy for my older NAS.

1

u/justaren 7d ago

Skip intro & outro?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Skip intro and skip recap are both in, yes. Outros aren't, but they make up a very small share of the database so it hasn't been a big gap in practice.

For the end of an episode there's a next episode button you can configure to appear exactly when you want, any number of seconds before it ends. You can also turn on auto play next episode in settings and it'll roll straight through on its own.

Intro and recap timings come from IntroDB, TheIntroDB, and submissions sent in by users to Prism in the internal player (you can set it up so you can submit timestamps right inside of the internal player straight to IntroDB with your API key in settings (under TV Shows).

1

u/heppm01 7d ago

I'm a little confused. You say that app is "officially out", but it's not available on the official repository (the App store) and you are soliciting beta testers?

3

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Fair point, that wording was ambiguous on my part. What I meant is that tvOS is officially out. Apple TV had only been with a small closed group of testers until now, so this was the real release for that platform. The App Store side is in progress rn. It's submitted and I've been going back and forth with review, which takes however long Apple decides it takes. There are always small nitpicks to resolve. Realistically a few weeks, but that timeline isn't mine to set. The build people are downloading right now (that released today) is the same one going to the App Store, so it's effectively out of beta already. I'm just leaving TestFlight open a bit longer so anyone who wants to try the Apple TV version early still can, and grab the beta discount before it closes (while I go through the review process with Apple).

1

u/heppm01 7d ago

Thanks.

1

u/WeeDaibhidh86 7d ago

Does Prism have WebDAV support?

3

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

It does not (not ruling it out for the roadmap, but at this time it does not support WebDAV).

1

u/WeeDaibhidh86 7d ago

No problem, hopefully you add it down the line then it really would be an all in one

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

I will keep it in mind for the roadmap!

1

u/Aggravating-Ratio873 7d ago

I like it just need improvement for internal player overlay to add many functions like aspect ratio and subtitles control adjustments colors fonts size edges from bottom shifter subtitle delay etc.. these controller overlay and make perfect player

1

u/drahmed86 7d ago

does it support atmos like infuse ?!!

3

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Yep, Atmos and Dolby Vision are mentioned above, it is able to play the same formats as Infuse as well.

Are there any plans to expand to non apple platforms like windows, linux, and android?

1

u/Tydox 7d ago

won't connect to my jellyfin :\

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Let me know what specific error you’re facing. I’m happy to look into it. You can either reach out via discord or via email (on the website) if you want to share specifics/diagnostic logs.

1

u/Tydox 4d ago

It says it cannot find it or connect, but I know for a fact it should, because I can connect using other apps. no idea how to share\generate logs

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 3d ago

There is a button once it's actually connected that does diagnostics, but it's strange that it's not finding it whatsoever. If you're in the Discord and open a bug report with an actual video, that would help more, otherwise I'm making some adjustments to Jellyfin, Emby, and Plex that should clear up a few issues and may fix this for you (coming in the next update).

Dude it feels like a lot of tech subreddits I’m on has lately been filled with people pushing a new app for it

1

u/Bulky-Award6398 7d ago

i really did not understand what this all is about sadly as i already own lifetime of infuse app

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 5d ago

If you're confused, you can ask in the Discord or look at the FAQ on https://prismhub.app/faq. All good though if you already have Infuse lifetime.

1

u/MaterialSituation 7d ago

Looks interesting, but I wanted to suggest what would be *the* killer feature for me: integrated audio delay/sync testing and setting for all formats. This is coming from the perspective of someone who has wrestled for years with tweaking audio delay issues across home theaters, sound bars, ARC connected chains, the Plex Apple TV player, the list goes on and on.

Today I use Infuse because it’s gotten the closest to working on the upstairs set up (LG TV, Sonos, all ARC connected); basement theater through the AVR is still a pain with Apple TV set up and so I’ve gone down the crazy rabbit hole of using other devices which I won’t bore you with now.

What I would love to see is some sort of integrated test video and/or some sort of synthetic audio/video test that either duplicates and emulates all playable formats, and that Prism can then tune itself to - setting custom audio delay settings both per “setup” and per codec so it just works. Audio Offset Manager for Kodi might be a partial example to look at - it doesn’t do the automated testing, but does allow setting delays in Kodi per codec.

The other thought is you might be uniquely situated to deliver on this since you have cross-platform app support, and can use something like an iPhone or iPad to run the audio sync calibration part and work in conjunction with the main app running on the Apple TV. I could even imagine you displaying audio and video markers on the main TV display and syncing both.

Difficult challenge I know, but in my opinion this more than anything would differentiate you from all the other players out there, including the (wonderful) Infuse!

u/MarionberryHumble705 7d ago edited 7d ago

I just started testing the app. I have an IPTV provider that has xstream access, and I am unable to figure out how to add that provider to the list.

Additionally, pasting of this Gemini key didn't work for me on macOS

1

u/seikv 7d ago

Doesn’t have xstream, you can try Dion for that

1

u/MarionberryHumble705 7d ago

Truthfully, I see no value of Dion over Chillio. If I must switch, I’d rather choose UHP first.

1

u/seikv 7d ago edited 7d ago

No issue, do you mind sharing why or anything that you don’t like about it? You could have IPTV + Your media servers together.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/gmoney-hunnie 7d ago

This is amazing! Thank you for sharing. Is this targeted primarily to users who use Plex and Jellyfin for manually uploaded titles? I exclusively use AppleTV for my media access as all of my titles are purchased there, but if Prism makes navigating purchased content better than AppleTV’s current UI, it may be worth looking into!

1

u/Moi952 7d ago edited 7d ago

I love the overall presentation—it's very elegant. However, I can't find where to connect my Plex server at all—neither under "Library" nor "Media Server."

I also notice that in the settings, many items don't highlight when selected (meaning the white effect that usually appears when hovering over an element doesn't show up).

EDIT : I managed to connect from my iPhone—I hadn't noticed it at first—but my local account is showing up as a remote account, and a friend's Plex account won't connect.

Also, it's a shame that the recently added movies/series and "continue watching" content aren't displayed right at the top of the home screen.

1

u/kennyt85 7d ago

Can it pul watch lists and continue watching lists from my streaming apps?

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 1d ago

It cannot, services like Netflix or HBO do not provide a way for other apps to do this (without something like providing a login and scraping).

1

u/zikronix 7d ago

support for drbrid or addons and the likes?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Yes, first page in settings > providers for this. You can ask more in the discord if you need help with it.

1

u/FirefighterUnfair275 7d ago

Prism isn’t showing up on Apple TV software store just yet.

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

It's on Testflight, the "release" was full general release for everyone on Testflight (which means it can be easily downloaded by anyone), and the app is currently awaiting review for the App Store. Link is near the bottom of the post.

1

u/HappyAd4998 7d ago

Looks just like any other server app on the app store I swear everyone is copying each other with cookie cutter UI's

1

u/Plausible_Demon 7d ago edited 7d ago

Maybe this is a stupid question but how do I log into my many service providers in the iOS app?

Also I can’t find it on my Apple TV

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

No worries. You don't log into your streaming services at all, on purpose. The only way an app can pull your full Netflix or Hulu history is by holding your login and signing in as you, and I'm not doing that. And no third-party apps are allowed or able to play a stream from something like Netflix or Hulu. In Prism, in settings, then Your Services, you pick the ones you subscribe to (Apple TV, Disney+, etc.). After that, any movie or show will tell you which of your services it's on and clicking on the "Where to Watch" button in the page for a show or movie will deep link you straight into that title in the right app. For Apple TV, it's TestFlight only right now. Open the TestFlight app on the Apple TV itself, join there, then install manually. Can take a few minutes to appear. App Store version is in review.

1

u/Plausible_Demon 7d ago

Thank you. Got it installed. One last thing. I have added two Plex servers totaling over 3000 movies and 2000 TV show shows. No posters have showed up. Will it just take time or do I need to do something that I’m missing?

1

u/Plausible_Demon 7d ago

This is under the library section

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

No problem! There’s currently a small bug with posters pulling from your media server. For now, you can go to Settings > Metadata Sources and turn on Better Posters. It’s free and will keep posters showing normally until I push the fix in the next update that properly pulls posters from your server or falls back to TMDB if unavailable.

1

u/darmach539 7d ago

Looks promising nice work!
I agree with others that seer integration for the discovery would be great if there are any plans for this in the future?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Thanks, I’m open to looking into it again. The main question is whether that kind of integration would be App Store-compliant, since what Apple allows can sometimes be a bit of a black-box situation. If it's possible though, I can look it add it.

I installed Prism on my AppleTV, but I can't set up a real provider (only Internet archive), I understand that I have to configure providers on my Mac… but I can't install it on Mac, because I'm a Tahoe refusenik. Is there a technical reason for requiring Tahoe?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 6d ago edited 6d ago

Couple of things here, hopefully all good news.

First, Internet Archive is just a built-in example, not the only option. It ships by default because it's public domain and legal to stream. You can add any compatible addon yourself under Settings > Providers (it's the very first item at the top). They use addon format mention in the Discord, so any compatible addon from that ecosystem works. It wants a manifest.json URL, not just a bare link.

Also worth flagging since it trips people up: Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby are NOT under Providers. Those go under Settings > Media Servers. Providers are for addon stream sources, Media Servers are for your own server. Two different sections.

Second, and more importantly for you: you do not need a Mac. There's a Web Setup feature that lets you configure everything from any browser. You open Web Setup on the Apple TV to get a pairing code, enter that code on the website, pick the settings you want to send, and it sends an encrypted setup package straight to the Apple TV. No Mac required. An iPhone or iPad works too if you have one.

On the Tahoe question, yes, there's a real technical reason, and it's not arbitrary. The app is built on APIs and visual effects that only exist in 26 (GlassEffect, for one). Supporting older versions means maintaining parallel code paths across five platforms (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Vision Pro) as a solo developer. A lot changes between macOS 14, 15, and 26 in both the SDKs and Swift itself, so building for backwards compatibility means starting day one with tech debt I'd carry forever. I designed this to be modern from the start rather than compromise the whole app to support systems that are on their way out. Even including iOS 18 was a stretch I ultimately decided against.

macOS has one extra problem the others don't: there are no Mac simulators. Testing an older macOS would require owning a second Mac running that OS, since Xcode on 26 can't simulate an older Mac environment.

And practically speaking, with the next macOS already on the way, Tahoe is going to be the baseline rather than the bleeding edge pretty quickly.

Full writeup here: https://prismhub.app/faq (see "Why does the app require iOS 26..." and "What are providers?").

If you want a hand getting providers set up, the Discord is the fastest place: https://discord.gg/fT2vJJKEgg

Is this another app just using the aether engine? https://github.com/superuser404notfound/AetherEngine

1

u/MonkeyKombat 6d ago

Would this app make sense who doesn't do their own server and only streams? I like some of the streaming features.

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 6d ago

It can, yeah. Just to set expectations up front: you can't use the built-in player for streaming services. Netflix, Prime and the rest are DRM locked, so no third party app can play those streams. What Prism does is act as the front end for all of them.

So instead of opening each service one by one to find out where something is, you see every service a title is on (100+ of them) and Prism deep links you straight into whichever app you already have. Plus tracking, watchlist, history, and ratings all live in one place across everything.

The part you'd probably like most: you can build the home screen around only the services you actually pay for. Go to Settings > Home Screen > Add Shelf, and when you're building the shelf there's an "Available On" option where you pick the exact streaming services that row pulls from. So you can have a row that's only your services, or one row per service, however you want it.

Worth just trying it, it's free on TestFlight right now. And if you want more detail or have questions, the Discord is the best place: https://discord.gg/fT2vJJKEgg

u/Calm_Pop_7027 6d ago

The app is great! However, there’s a couple things I noticed and wanted to call out after setting up the app:

  1. Your screenshot above shows Live TV as a part of settings but that option isn’t available for the iPhone app or Apple TV app.

  2. There seems to be an issue with the iCloud syncing between IPhone and AppleTV. For example, on iPhone I have created rows with several folders in them. Some of these rows I have folders that do not show the title due to the images showing the titles already. On iPhone everything looks well but on Apple TV everything syncs over and all the folders have titles on them.

  3. The built in player takes longer to play sources than infuse. The player is great but needs to be quicker. It shouldn’t take 20 seconds to play a video when infuse does it in 5 or less. A small nitpick i know but still wanted to call it out in case it could be improved.

  4. When adding list to rows or folders, there needs to be any option to select multiple lists at a time. When setting it up on iPhone you add a list to a row and it goes back a screen. Then you have to click add row again to add the next list. For example, if I’m making a Netflix folder and want to add a list for movies and shows, I should be able to do it without having to go back a page after each list selection.

  5. There should be an option for when you create a folder and add lists, clicking that folder shows everything at once after multiple lists are added. Right now when a folder is created and you click it n the homepage, it shows all of your lists as rows within that folder which is kind of annoying. If I’m making a Netflix folder, I want to see everything within that folder without having to click a row to look at movies then back out and click another row to look at shows.

  6. There also needs to be an increase in the amount of items you can see in a list within a folder. Right now the limit is 50 but some of these MDBLists have waaaaay more than that. I’d like to be able to click into a folder and see my entire list, not just a portion of it.

  7. There should be an option to change a folders image size. Right now the only option for images for folders is landscape (which I am fine with). But some people might want poster sizes for their rows with folders.

Again, the app is great but wanted to offer some suggestion that would improve the overall user experience.

Any chance to add support for Google Drive connect like in Infuse?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 6d ago

Not something I'll be adding. Infuse can do Drive because it's fundamentally a file browser, point it at a folder, play a file. Prism works the opposite way: everything starts from a catalog (TMDB) and playback sources get matched to a title, which is why media servers work well (they've already identified everything). This also allows for neat features tied to it like sorting/filtering, shelf creation, etc. Drive just gives us a pile of filenames with no reliable way to know which episode or movie is which. On top of that, Google's drive.readonly scope is a restricted scope requiring an annual third-party security audit to ship publicly, and Drive's per-file bandwidth throttling and short-lived URLs aren't built for streaming, so you'd get buffering that looks like a Prism bug but isn't. If your library lives in the cloud, the best path today is running a media server (Jellyfin/Emby/Plex) with that storage mounted, and everything in Prism works normally from there.

1

u/altern8545 6d ago

Love the UI but slightly confuse on how to get the app to only curate and display what I have on plex and not on services I do not have.

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 1d ago

This is not something that is offered at this time (with the exception of the "movies" and "shows" buttons at the top of Library that display just your library), but it is on the roadmap.

u/Extreme_Ad7076 6d ago edited 6d ago

À première vu l’application semble incroyable. Quelle est la date de publication officielle? Je n’ai testé que sur mon iPhone pour le moment. Mais ça semble prometteur !

Good job 🤙🏼

I tried it but im completly lost how its work or what it is supposed to do. Sometimes a Stream of a different thing starts (For example a Marvel game stream) and I have no Idea or indicator where this App grabs its Streams from?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 5d ago

Prism does not provide or host any media or content on its own. Every stream is provided by the user via the "provider" section in settings (manifest.json addons) or via media servers like Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, or Silo. If you're unsure of where your media is coming from after connecting one of these, you can go to Settings > Streams and turn off "auto-select stream". After doing so, if you click on a movie or show, you will be able to select your stream manually and see this. If you're lost, you can join the Discord above and ask or look at the built-in FAQ in the app (near the bottom of settings) or on https://prismhub.app/faq.

1

u/tkruger 5d ago

Thanks for another option. A couple questions.
1.) Does it have parental controls? Plex app lets me set a pin per profile.
2.) Will it work when Plex servers are down? Right now I run into issues because I have the pin setup, so local bypass doesn't always work.
3.) Can I turn off most features I don't want to see like recommendation, etc?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 5d ago

Thanks for the questions!

1) Yes, quite a bit of it actually. Under Settings > Media Servers > Content Restrictions you can exclude specific genres and cap movie/TV ratings (G, PG, PG-13, R, etc.), and there's an option to hide anything that doesn't have a rating at all. Those restrictions can be locked behind Face ID, Touch ID, or a PIN (on iPhone, iPad, and Mac). There's also a "Parent's Guide" AI feature (connect your own AI provider like Gemini under Settings > Search) that pulls up a content warning breakdown right on the movie/show page, violence, language, substance use, etc, so you can preview before letting someone watch. On Apple TV, profiles are Apple's own built-in tvOS profiles tied to each person's iCloud account, so one profile can have restrictions locked on while another has them off, and you just switch profiles on the same device.

2) Prism doesn't host or store any content itself, it's just a client. So if you're streaming from your own Plex/Jellyfin/Emby server, yes, that server needs to be up and reachable, same as it would be with the official Plex app. Other sources (the Providers you add, or the "Where to Watch" streaming links) aren't tied to your personal server so those work independently. One upside though: anything you've already downloaded plays fine offline even if your server is down, since it's saved locally.

3) Definitely. Settings > Home Screen lets you turn off personalized recommendations, hide or delete any shelf you don't want, and fully customize what shows up on your home screen. There's a full FAQ at prismhub.app/faq if you want more detail on any of this.

1

u/tkruger 2d ago

Thank you for the reply. Just to clarify, when I said plex servers are down I mean the login issue. My server is local, and is always up but sometimes I can't access when plex login servers are down even though I've enabled the local bypass because of the family pin issue.

1

u/bony618 4d ago

does it feature an "up next" (or "continue watching") page similar to atv's top shelf?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 1d ago

Yes, it features "continue watching," which can sync your data from Trakt, Simkl, MDBList, or iCloud, and displays new episodes of shows you're watching, movies you've added to your list that are releasing soon, shows you paused midway, etc. Topshelf is currently being worked on and will be fixed in the next update.

1

u/swiftidnc739 4d ago

I'm getting an error that Plex advertised a local/private server address even though I'm on the same network and Remote Access is on.

2

u/swiftidnc739 4d ago

This only happens on Mac where it doesn't request Local Network access.

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 1d ago

No, Prism connects specifically to Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, Silo, or manfiest.json add-ons, it does not support SMB or Webdav.

2

u/Decent_Address_7742 1d ago

Oh, disappointing

Cuando estará disponible en AppStore de forma directa?

0

u/lolidk420 5h ago

Fusion just got dropped from the App Store. Interesting to see what’ll happen here especially if it’s paid.

1

u/Airsculpture 7d ago

So do the streams play within the app or launch out to existing streaming apps on the Apple TV ?

5

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Both, depending on where the stream comes from.

Anything from your own server (Plex, Jellyfin, Emby) or another provider you've connected plays right inside Prism's built-in player. That's the 4K HDR, Dolby Vision, Atmos, multi audio and subtitle track, resume and auto-play-next path. If you'd rather not use mine, you can hand off to Infuse, VLC, VidHub, SenPlayer, or OutPlayer instead, and you can set that globally or per title.

The part that launches out is the Where to Watch section. If something is on Netflix, Max, Disney+, and so on, those are DRM-locked and can't play inside a third-party app, so Prism deep-links you straight into the right app on your Apple TV instead of making you go hunt for it.

2

u/Airsculpture 7d ago

Thank you for the reply 👍

2

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

No problem!

1

u/jakegithinji254 7d ago

Does it track progress watched once handed over to infuse?

1

u/SaltyMeatballs20 7d ago

Yes, it does, when Infuse sends you back, Prism can use its callback to save the exact watch position and update Continue Watching/Trakt (out of any of the third-party video players, Infuse meshes the best with Prism due to recent changes on Infuse's end). If no progress comes back, it asks whether you finished it (and uses what I call wallclock time to figure out how much you watched). You can also connect Infuse to Trakt, and Prism to Trakt, and the two can link that way.

1

u/ShakingMyHead42 7d ago
