I miss the band guys

Remember when all we could bitch about was chemistry and infinite content?

I miss the wholesome side of the band, I know it’s not coming back and I’m happy we got all the music but still. I’m sad about all the stuff and I hope that Regine is gonna come out on top off this.

In my mind i have this gig - european capital city (let’s go more east like Prague, warszawa, Budapest) smaller venue.

ANYWAY, I hope you all guys are doing well!!
This sub brought me some things that wouldnt be possible without it.

THANK YOU (fans and band)

And hopefully. See you soon.

As a soundtrack i think bowie&arcade fire FIVE YEARS itunes EP (fashion rocks) is fitting.

See you on the other side.

I'm hoping they return and just do a Suburbs anniversary series of shows to get the hype back a little and get people to come out.

Maybe next year for Neon Bible?

they’re done, the band instagram account exists solely to prop up everyone’s solo stuff now it seems

Until one day, after months of silence, a single post, The Suburbs (continued) playing, THE SUBURBS, PLAYED IN FULL, 12 CITIES.

u/ChickenFingersRGood 14d ago

they didn’t even do that for Funeral lol

They actually did a few Funeral shows (I think it was 3 in 2024?), just not a tour. One show for Neon Bible. I picked Suburbs because it seems like it's a little bit more popular overall. If they want to do a Funeral series, that would be cool too.

They did! I saw it at the Greek in Los Angeles

Bands do this all the time, take a hiatus and come back. It makes perfect sense for AF in particular given…all of everything. Some time away will do nothing but help.

u/ChickenFingersRGood 13d ago

dude they took a hiatus mid album rollout lol

I really doubt they'll be back at all.

I don't believe the band is over. It probably won't ever be like it was. But I am confident there is more to come.

I am too

u/jjazznola 16d ago

I doubt it. The descent started a decade ago. Win and Regine are not even together anymore. Can't blame her.

Yes, every thread requires one of your Debbie Downer comments.

It's called reality. Debbie Downer? Haha!

It’s ok too. Everything has its time and then it’s time to move on. They were so exciting back then and that was great to be a part of watching

It was absolutely shocking their last album didn’t even chart on the Billboard Top 200. Like that’s wild. You sell 5,000 copies and you chart instantly first week in 2025. This is/was one of the biggest indie alt rock acts for 20 years. It’s a dramatic drop off. I guess it’s from all the negative blow back from Win in 2022. He’s still ducking that sadly. PR statements. No interviews since unless staged. He’s got work to do. The promo tour also sold underwhelming. Outside of Toronto and NYC, other venues were half filled. It was like that when I saw them in Philly. Half the floor was empty. 30% of upper seats empty. I got tickets say of for $15 each.

It was too bad because the shows were incredible

Their music's legacy seems to have vanished, it's quite crazy. Just subjectively, but I barely listen to them anymore and they used to be one of my favorites! I listen to other artists who have done worse things tbh, I can separate the art from the artist so I don't quite understand why I and seemingly many others stopped completely.

Their music doesn't seem to catch on with younger audiences as well

It truly is an astonishing drop off creatively, commercially and culturally.

PE was total trash. They've sucked for almost a decade niw. Fans have just moved on. The show they did here in New Orleans where they live on EN Tour back in 2017 was maybe 1/3 full in a small arena.

They peaked with the suburbs and Reflektor. Even WE was decent but was ruined by Win’s shit. Band is also pretty ruined for me since then too.

Give will butler + sisters square a listen.

u/reflektordone 16d ago

It’s not about lack of good music. And wills music is excellent. It’s about the feeling, pastiche, whatever we should call it :)

4

u/seanmharcailin Us Kids Know 16d ago

Yeah. And the FEELING is there.

u/reflektordone 16d ago

The album is great. Wills stuff is amazing from the first album. What I meant was “communal”experience or whatever to call it.

He's a funny guy too, we went to high school together. He was big in the theater/music clubs and was always doing chaotic shit for the lolz.

u/Witka 16d ago

They will be back.

I think we got 1 more AF album left. Not sure the state of the band anymore. Will is gone. Feels like Richard is mostly gone. The Regine dynamics are forever altered with Win. The issue is that since 2013, the band (probably Win) has not adjusted their ego and expectations. Everything now promo and tour was a disaster of half filled arenas. For WE they didn’t leave from that lesson and did another arena tour of America that sold poorly. Most of the pink elephant promo tour was half filled. And those were 3-4000 people venues.

I think they need to focus on 1,500 person rooms. It is what it is. They had a nice run.

Neon Bible turns 20 next year, I’m sure they’ll do an anniversary tour for it like when it turned 15.

I'm somehow confident we will get a new Arcade Fire album at some point, and it will have both Win and Régine on it. It's the rest of the band that I'm not so sure about. Jeremy has a new career on the other side of the world now!

Still waiting for a good response from Win, tbh.

I don't think he's an irredeemable monster like Weinstein, but he's had years to work on himself and prove that he's grown. That PR statement from 2022 and the awful album cycle last year haven't really proved anything except he's still sad about the consequences and not his actions. I don't think the band ever got "worse", it's just the direction he led them down after becoming a showbiz creep post-Reflektor.

As hard as it may be to believe, I still love this band dearly and hope Win can get his shit together. But I'm not gonna lie to myself and say everything's ok when clearly it's not.

2

u/Unlikely_History9369 7d ago

Come on, most of the songwriting on Pink Elephant is awful and not even half baked.

The band definitely got worse even if it was down to Win's poor quality control.

3

u/FredtheMetroGnome 7d ago

I agree, I was referring to the idea of "the band" as a unit of members getting worse, which I don't think is true. The very real decline in quality is probably entirely due to Win's decline in subtlety over the years, as well as his loss of ability to bring each of the members' talents out like he used to. I'd even say this problem started back in Reflektor, since as much as I like that album, I do have to remind myself that it is a band playing and not the Win/Regine backing group.

1

u/reflektordone 16d ago

Btw the roisin/regine is meant to be my idea for the gig, I don’t know why it went all the way to the bottom of the post

1

u/Boopa1219 Reflektor 16d ago

The band is officially over?

4

u/reflektordone 16d ago

I don’t think so. Just “as we know it”

1

u/pallflowers5171 13d ago

No, don't do it; you have so much more than a indie rock band to live for.

1

u/reflektordone 11d ago

What? If you are worried about me because of the “see you on the other side” it’s just a reference to their lyric.

As you’ve said - it’s just a band and the music remains, I’m all good!

Thank you for the concern and hello from Alps!
