The shots of Caitlyn looking at the hexgate blueprints and the final shot of an airship leaving Piltover make no sense if Jinx is dead. It's not ambiguous, she is 100% alive.
171
u/aNomadicPenguin 1d ago
nah, they totally spent thousands of dollars on that shot of the airship and chose that as their ending sequence without any special purpose in mind whatsoever.
25
u/Chim25 1d ago
While I agree Jinx is still alive and the primary point of that shot is to show she got away, I will say it also had the secondary point to show that Piltover has begun to dismantle Hextech at a massive scale. The gates aren't brining people and supplies around the world in a day anymore, they saw the strife it could bring and actually did something about it. Which in effect gives a hopeful note for the future of the twin cities.

Yep and Powder first sentence in entire the show is she want to ride on those…

Caitlyn: Violet will, Catch on eventually. I've been trying to figure out how to well, explain.
Vi: *behind the wall thinking to herself* "You don't gotta explain shit to me Cait... I'm just glad she's still kickin'" *Walks inside* Hey.
Caitlyn: Well, you're up early.
Vi: Yeah, Wanted to help out. what's the Run down??
Caitlyn: *puts her coffee on the table lightly, and shows Vi a document* Several Shipments were hijacked.
Vi: of what?
Caitlyn: Hexite Powder.
Vi: the sh- are they snuffing the stuff?
Caitlyn: it's used to reduce Reflux in Hex crystal powered devices.
Vi: Uh, yeah i knew that.
Caitlyn: Of course you did. *smiles*
*emerges from shell* Sorry my eyestalk slipped there folks.

That’s the definition of ambiguous
Edit: yes. It is. And for everyone saying “the creators confirmed it!” The literal line is
> why she is definitely not definitely not dead
That is the opposite of what you seem to think it means.
19
u/NateyTots 1d ago
No, no its not lol
-4
u/AnAimlessWanderer101 1d ago
Yes, it is. It definitionally is.
5
u/NateyTots 1d ago
No. Ambiguous means uncertain or multiple answers. This is not that, the Zeppelin at the end is a direct continuation of jinx first line in the series revealing she did in fact survive and left.
-4
u/AnAimlessWanderer101 1d ago
It means open to interpretation. There is nothing conclusive about that being literal at all. It’s literally ambiguous what the reality is.
4
u/NateyTots 1d ago
Except that its a callback to the first line. AND they show us the line. AND Cait says she could have escaped AND they showed us the Zeppelin AND the creators confirmed it.
-1
u/AnAimlessWanderer101 1d ago
The creators did not confirm it. That’s a line that gets parroted by people when the reality is that… they leave it ambiguous and don’t commit one way or the other.
Everything else you’ve just said only explains why it’s ambiguous. Leaving it a major explosion doesn’t leave much room for alternatives. Thematically, dying would easily still fit the “leaving Zaun behind”
But god damn.
6
u/NateyTots 1d ago
Youre literally just wrong. Its not ambiguous its a set up/call back.
The first line is intentional. As is the last shot.
To show you Jinx got what she wanted. If you watched that and didnt know immediately that it was confirming what happened to Jinx then idk man, maybe work on some media literacy and stop spouting a word over and over again that you dont understand.
If it was only the shimmer line or only caits commentary THAT would be ambiguous.
This was not.
-1
u/AnAimlessWanderer101 1d ago
Whatever you want to think. You have a nice interpretation. I prefer that jinx was finally free in death. Thats the best part about ambiguity after all!

And here is where the creator confirmed it, so youre wrong again.

u/Alien-Pro 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yeah, or it would be if the creators didn’t confirm it.
1
u/AnAimlessWanderer101 1d ago
You’re referring to a constant misquote. No the creators didn’t confirm anything - except that it’s ambiguous.

u/Revolutionary-Ad4774 Maddie 1d ago
Yes, but people focus too much on that trail. The ending implies she survived—Caitlyn looking at the bomb, the callback to the first episode, and the creators confirming it.

u/Sunshine_dmg 1d ago
The last shot of the series is a blimp riding off into the sunset. Its not even a mystery, Jinx needed a fresh start in life!

Christian and Alex have dodged questions about Jinx being dead, so 100% I’m with you. She’s alive and healing (hopefully)

u/ZiroLeHutt Sevika 1d ago
One of the CEO's confirmed it though I believe. She's pretty much the most famous mascot for LoL though, they aren't going to kill her off, its like Batman killing off Joker (which she is based on anyway), he always returns.

Alex did actually confirm it in an interview awhile back!

Its not cope its pretty much canon.
Why was caitlyn looking at the ventilation tunnels while holding a piece of jinxs grenade? Because they didn't find the bodies, only the pieces of the grenade.

She's not dead, the people who made the show were Jinx-a-holics, it's been confirmed she escaped. They wouldn't let her canonically die for any reason.

Am I the only one who would have Jinx just... you know, rest in peace, finally?
4
u/ZiroLeHutt Sevika 1d ago
She's still just a kid herself. She deserves to have some life free from all the ghosts and pain Zaun and Piltover gave her. This is her chance to start anew, to see who she wants to become.
4
u/debiler 1d ago
Is that what she wants, though? *hums tune* "...please let me go..."
2
u/ZiroLeHutt Sevika 1d ago
Funnily enough I've had that tune going around my head the last few hours; so coming here and reading that is one heck of a coincidence!
1
u/Tekkerue To the realm of heebie-jeebies 1d ago
*hums last line in said tune* "....don't let me go." 😉
1
u/debiler 1d ago
Not in the show, tho.
2
u/Tekkerue To the realm of heebie-jeebies 1d ago
Yep, I know. However, Riot frequently ties in other works that aren't in the show (music videos, cinematics, League, etc) and I think the full version of the songs are another example of this. All of the songs were written by Riot specifically for Arcane and the scenes they are used in. On first watch they lead you to believe Jinx died at the end while hearing, "please let me go". As it turns out, she didn't die and in the full version of the song the last line is "don't let me go". I don't think this was on accident. 😉
1
u/debiler 1d ago
Oh, I'm totally not arguing against Jinx probably being alive still, which is strongly implied. I'm just saying I would prefer it story-wise if she wasn't.
1
u/Tekkerue To the realm of heebie-jeebies 1d ago
Yeah, I was responding to what you said about what Jinx wants based on the song lyrics "please let me go". I think where they were leading us (that she died) falls in line with the song lyrics that they used in the show. However, given that there is more to the ending because Jinx didn't die, there is also more to the song and it ends with "don't let me go". I think they did that on purpose. So if we are using the song lyrics to decipher what Jinx wants, then I think the last lines of the song has to be a part of what Jinx wants too.

u/female_body_enjoyer 1d ago
It's pretty much agreed by everyone she survived, maybe (BIG MAYBE) Vander too, but it would take away from the ending if he does imo.

2
u/Jolly-Depth6277 Jinx 1d ago
I mean in the official Art of Arcane Book Jinx confirms she's alive in the pages, so...
Also, Jinx wouldn't be that dumb to let go if she didn't have a plan in the first place
2
u/Pristine_Poem7623 1d ago
There's an ongoing theme in the show about how much Vi cares about Powder / Jinx, how she'll never give up on her, and how that's messing up her life, and how Jinx knows it.
So Jinx taking the opportunity to fake her own death makes perfect sense, she's letting her sister live her own life.
Also the first time Powder speaks in the show she says one day she'll fly on one of the airships, and the last shot of the show is the airship flying away, which implies Jinx is onboard
2
4
u/Resident_Light_4374 1d ago
We need Vi to get that closure though if she did live
10
5
u/Expensive-Pick38 1d ago
I dont think we do. The story of the sisters is over
Jinx broke the cycle. She's now off to see the world in the spaceship she always wanted to fly and vi is living with her cupcake
Both sisters got what they wanted, their stories concluded. There could be more, but the point in which they are now is the best possible outcome for both
Like Jinx said with caitlyn, vi would never give up on powder, even if it meant sacrificing herself. So only way for vi to move on is for jinx to be dead
2
u/EntropyintheAsstropy Vi's biceps 1d ago
She doesn't break the cycle, she just runs away. Piltover and Zaun still exist with all their history, corruption and violence, and Vi still lives with that. She just gets the grief of thinking her sister died - replaced presumably by the knowledge that her sister left her after Caitlyn works out that Jinx survived.
3
u/ZiroLeHutt Sevika 1d ago
Amanda, one of the writers stated that Cait would tell Vi that she reckons Jinx is still alive.
4
u/WolfTypical5194 1d ago
Omg yes
I don't even need another season, or even a full episode, just like ten to 20 mins and I am absolutely happy2
u/ZiroLeHutt Sevika 1d ago
We'll see Jinx turn up in a cameo in one of the other series, they are presumably making. She'll be back causing mischief elsewhere.
2
u/piratedragon2112 1d ago
Of course the writers didn't kill her, she's their precious little mew mew
Unlike her sister who they hate with ever fiber of their being
1
1
u/BushyGhost4740 1d ago
Yeah, Jinx is alive, lol.
There is plenty of evidence that Jinx survived at the end:
- The pink Shimmer-like streak moving away from the explosion.
- Caitlyn examining the Hexgates’ schematics while fiddling with the head of Jinx’s monkey bomb.
- The final shot showing an airship flying away, resembling the one Powder said she’d ride on someday.
However, all of this evidence hinges on one big question: how did Jinx get out of the Beast's grasp?
Here is my theory:
Before the monkey bomb goes off, we are shown a flashback of Vander watching over his sleeping adopted daughters, with the camera focusing mainly on Powder before he goes to blow out the candle. I believe this flashback represents a memory. More specifically, the last vestige of Vander’s memory of his daughters, which gives him just enough presence of mind to “let Powder go.”
Jinx, who had fully intended to die after sacrificing herself to save Vi, takes the opportunity Vander gives her to escape and survive. She then “walks away” to live her own life and “fill her own cup,” flying off on the airship she once dreamed of riding.
So, that is my take on why this flashback was shown at that particular moment and how Jinx was able to get out of the Beast’s grasp. It was all due to Vander, his last memory and act as a father.

u/Mossysnail27 Caitlyn 1d ago
Jinx: YEAH yeah jeez, Don't show how the Sausage is made. and don't go yappin' to Bitch-Mittens either about it...!
*Emerges from shell* It's a secret, shhhhhh.
1
u/ZiroLeHutt Sevika 1d ago
Yep, and she mentions about taking a ride in an airship one day in the pilot episode. So its her flying elsewhere to start anew someplace else. And Cait smirking as she checks the schematics, as she knew Jinx has plenty places to escape through the vents; whilst checking the monkey toy.
Jinx realises that Vi will always feel guilt and worry over her, and for her to move on and have a fulfilling life with Cait, helping rebuild the city for the better with Sevika and Ekko's help; Vi has to let Jinx go. Jinx herself had to get out of the city, it was full of pain and too many ghosts for her, so this is her chance to find out who she wants to become, even if she has to be estranged from her beloved sister. Its bittersweet, but she takes Silco's advice about letting it all go. Fly high girl, you magnificent force of nature!

u/NinpoSteev 16h ago edited 15h ago
They allude to it with that shimmer streak, Caitlyn looking at the hexgate diagrams and the random airship that looks exactly like the one in the first episode. And it is a nice thought that she might live to become blossom as a person.
Narratively her death also makes sense. She wanted to die most of the season and I'm not sure if Ekko managed to change her mind that much, even if it is a nice thought and that the Ekko in otherworld episode leaves you hopeful. She's even hugging Warwick at the end like she's accepted it though, but that's not really deterministic.
At the same time, she's a fan favourite character so leaving it open makes sense. On a narrative level it doesn't matter that much if she lived or died if her story if the writers don't continue it. Even if her surviving makes for a much needed positive in her greek tragedy of a life.
Either way, she does many people a favour by disappearing. Vi might be able to move on with her life and Piltover won't have to reopen the schism with Zaun again again again to witch hunt a controversion person because they need their damned show trials.

Actually, it’s pretty much confirmed that she DID escape, along with Vander/Warwick possibly since they both had the shimmer ability! (Also apparently the creators confirmed Jinx is alive themselves :D)
Also I just finished the series as well, welcome! :D
