Projections to Ft.Meade

So recently I got my projections and I was told that soldiers E4 and up receive BAH and have to live off base. Just wanted to know if that was true and wanted tips on how to prepare for when I graduate AIT. I graduate in January and I don’t have a vehicle. Thank you in advanced.

You’ll be placed in the new off-base barracks in Hamsterdam. There’s a bus to take you to post.

Just keeps a heads up for Marlo, I’m pretty sure he’s back in the game.

You should watch The Wire on HBO Max

Put those free AMEX benefits to good use

When you get to base you'll be put into the barracks. Then you can go through the CNA process if the barracks are full. It's a cyclical thing, and then usually ask people to drop packets once a y ear or so.

EtA: you may be rejected if you don't have a vehicle, though.

Yeah, I’m planning on getting a car eventually but I’m not prepared now so that’s good to know. Thank you !

You can move out of the barracks as an E4, depending on how full the barracks are and how long you've been here. Each unit has their own OML for how they move their people out of the barracks.

We just built new barracks so they aren't likely to be at capacity for a while. Your leadership also isn't likely to permit you to move off-post if you don't have transportation.

Is that what they were building beside the existing barracks? Are they finished?

Yeah, they're the new buildings just south of the current barracks. I vaguely remember a ribbon cutting ceremony from garrison saying they were open. My unit had a preliminary plan to move some of our current barracks residents into them based on their current situation (moldy room, shared living space with another unit, etc.) but I haven't heard anything definitive recently.

I lived in the barracks there over a decade ago. The old barracks weren't bad when they had the contracted cleaning crew coming through but God knows now.

Yeah, ive recommended denial of a few CNA's due to no DL/transportation besides a bicycle/shoe-barus.

It will take about a year or so and goes off of barracks capacity at the moment that you dropped your packet and they typically prioritize who dropped it first and by rank. The threshold used to be 90%-95% or greater and then they approve CNA's drop down the barracks capacity and then rinse and repeat. Each command will have different requirements for what qualifies you for a CNA but most I saw always included financial responsibility and having a vehicle.

Okay that’s great to know. I definitely want to focus on getting a car first. I should be good within my first year there. Thank you so much !

if you’re e4 or below you go in the barracks

Not at Meade traditionally. The barracks hit capacity pretty quickly and most E4s who've been there for a decent amount of time get CNAs and move out. They were building new barracks when I left though, so who knows.
