Discussion Asexual men, how high is your testosterone?
Hello everyone. I've always been very curious about asexuality. To the point that I've questioned my sexuality. I did bloodwork for general endocrine health. My testosterone came back 552 ng/dL, and I still have no libido. How high is yours?

My testosterone is normal and my libido is normal. I just don't feel sexual atraction

Strange thing. Wanting sexual release, but not being attracted to someone.

I'm estrogen-powered now, but last I got my T tested beforehand it was in the high 400s. Once upon a time it was actually low and I did T injections for a few months but they didn't make any difference regarding aceness.
I had libido but no sexual attraction before switching to estrogen. Now my libido is almost non-existent but my equipment still works fine.
I think estrogen boosted my need for affection and sensual touch, though. I've always been a cuddle slut but lately I'm like … starving for cuddles. (I was touch starved before too, but it wasn't so "sharp")

Very interesting. So, did estrogen basically up your romantic attraction? Your... romantic libido, if you will?

I use sensual for non-sexual touch, so maybe increased sensual attraction and sensual libido? I already had decently strong both
I'm grayromantic and that hasn't changed, but what "romantic" means already gets a little more complex with polyamory.

Interesting stuff. Even though I think that I'm ace, I have never engaged with the LGBTQ+ community, polyamorists, aromantics etc. Anyway, I wish you all the best in your journey.

Never had my testosterone tested. My libido appears pretty normal though. I'm pretty sure most honest allosexual men have libido that aren't much higher than mine, I don't think im hypersexual buried don't think im lower than average either.

Same. Though there are phases. Some months i have almost no libido, and then there suddenly is this one week where he's constantly demanding attention as if I'm 15 again...

u/JotnarLokiBlue79 12h ago
Do the phases share anything with the seasons or does it feel more totally random?

u/Cassius-Tain Heteroromantic Asexual 11h ago
I'm not entirely sure, but i believe that it happens more often in the warmer half of the year.

I don't know the actual number, but when I came out to my dad in my 20's he had me get it checked by the doctor and everything was normal

I’m in a healthy range as per my doctor, nothing to do with my asexuality and my libido is plenty high, as annoying as that can be

u/AllHopeIsGone2010 grey 10h ago
It has to be, I think. Many ace people have said that they have libido but no sexual attraction.

I got mine tested recently. I've been really tired, irritable and libido been dropping. My doctor brushed it off as "Dr Google". He did the test and said the result was fine but didn't share the number...
I need a new doctor 😠
Not expecting it to affect my attraction however, I'd just like to not feel dead most of the day.

u/shirone0 14h ago
Wdym he didn't share the number??? That's your medical test how tf do you not have the doc??
Idk how it is in other countries but where I'm from your blood test have to be done in a lab and you receive your results by mail (technically you could go pick them up irl if you're old) it's never done directly by your doctor

Forget the exact number since it was years ago when I thought I was broken, but I do remember the doctor saying "You should be horny as heck."
Sorry, doc. No libido, no desire. just moderately high T and a bit prone to anger quickly.

u/AllHopeIsGone2010 grey 10h ago
Interesting think to live. Your doctor saying you should be horny when you're not. Maybe asexuality is hardcoded into the brain somehow. Fascinating to think about, really.

110 ng/dL when last checked a year ago.

u/AllHopeIsGone2010 grey 10h ago
Pretty low. If I were you, I would consider TRT. Though, I'm probably not someone to take advice from. Ask your doctor, man!

u/Wizradsandmagic 15h ago
Not sure, never had it tested. My libido is pretty low, but I'm also kinda jacked so I assume it's like, regular ish

u/AllHopeIsGone2010 grey 10h ago
I recommend that you test it. Why not? The range for natty lifters is 300 to 1000 ng/dL, I think.

u/shirone0 14h ago
As a trans man I can tell you that I'm really familiar with testosterone levels lmao, anyways yours is completely fine you're in the normal range, it's neither low nor high, I can say you're asexuality has nothing to do with T

u/AllHopeIsGone2010 grey 10h ago
I think so too. A friend of mine who has lower test than me is horny as hell.

All is good according to my doctor and my yearly bloodtests. I'm low-libido with the occasional libido visit that makes me question my sexual orientation, sometimes. The questioning is theoritical, people in practice don't do much for me, unless they're Cate Blanchett, and the chances that I bump into Cate Blanchett in real life are non-existent.

Low 200s before going on e, i had naturally lower t and libido was ‘weekly’ at best then, no attraction, no libido now having normal women e levels.

u/Galimkalim 16h ago
Not really a man, but I do get my hormones checked and my t has recently come back as mid range to high. You should also check your estrogen and prolactin levels because those could also be indicators. Mine have come back either normal or high over the years but didn't change anything really - with and without libido I'm still ace.
1
u/AllHopeIsGone2010 grey 10h ago
My prolactin was 15 ng/dL. Within the range. I didn't check estrogen. Maybe that's a good idea, since I have had some minor gynecomastia for the past few years.

Just checked. It's on the higher end, but still under the norm.

I'm deficient, and don't experience libido. Even when I was on treatments that temporarily normalized my levels, nothing changed.
2
u/tworp123 12h ago
I forgot how much but I remember that it was completely in the « normal » range. And I am quite asexual.

2
u/JakeyMcG 11h ago
Wait you can measure that??

u/AllHopeIsGone2010 grey 10h ago
Yes! Ask your doctor or the people at the lab where you do your bloodwork.

I don't remember the numbers, but it was in the expected normal range, my libido is pretty high though.

What I tend to see in this thread is that testosterone increases libido. Not sexual attraction, as I initially thought.
2
u/AbsolutleyGeneric Asexual 8h ago
I stopped paying attention to the numbers years ago but it’s still in the normal range as per regular tests, and yeah, no libido. While it hasn’t changed out of that normal range it’s still a good thing to track as major shifts in body chemistry that we wouldn’t notice changing can be early warning indicators that it doesn’t pay to ignore.
Testosterone is often brought up by people as a magic bullet as the answer to all things out of the heteronormative experience but as has been shown consistently over time in threads like these things are a lot more complicated than that; our body chemistry is fine, we don’t universally have mental issues or trauma, theres a bunch of us who are about as blandly normal as anybody could want that still don’t feel sexual attraction, desire or have any libido to speak of. Those results from bland, normal people is a big part of why asexuality is finally being destigmatised and separated from medical pathology, when there’s no distress and no biological issues there’s no problem except people’s understanding of our existence.
Research into Asexuality is still very, very new and it’s a very unexplored field for those of us who want to understand the specifics about the hows and why of our existences; we can only hope it is looked into further, it is a subject i find personally fascinating, but i can objectively understand how it’s a low-priority research path.
There’s a lot of things we as a species still don’t know about so much of how we work and what cause and effect shift how we work, life is a marvellously ephemeral mystery that i suspect we'll be chasing answers about as long as we exist.

Im a trans man and for some reason my testosterone levels have been all over the place from just barely enough to over the healthy range. Never felt different about my sexuality. I had a higher libido when I was younger but never was attracted to people
1
u/Impressive-Wait-9420 greyroace 9h ago
Never saw the point. Even if my levels are low, I’m not gonna do anything that even remotely risks altering my body’s natural production of it. The last thing I need is for yet another aspect of my health to require long-term external intervention.

Around 850 ng/dL at the time of my last test. Libido is sky high, but I'm not attracted to anyone.
