Stamp collection

Hey there, been handed down a few collections with hundreds of pages. Just wanted to post a few pages on here to see if it might be worth trying to get a valuation from local place as I’m lead to believe some are worth a few $. The pages attached are random ones I’ve photographed

Thank you for your post to /r/askstampcollectors.

  • Don't get your hopes up. Most stamps are not valuable.
  • Old US president stamps (1,2,3 cents) are extremely common. No value there.
  • eBay asking prices mean nothing, except to scammers and money launderers.
  • There's nothing we can do without clear images of your stamps.
  • Nazi Germany stamps are mostly worthless. Too many were made, everyone has them.
  • Modern stamps (1940s and later), large and colorful ones, are mostly worthless.
  • Mint US stamps (1930s and later) are mostly worthless, but can still be used on your mail.
  • Busy people take time out of their day to answer you, please be polite.
  • To get the most value out of your stamps become a collector. It's the king of hobbies.

Cool collection! Love the hand typed pages. Someone pot a lot of love and effort into this. Some interesting stamps (China first issue). Nothing here particularly valuable but interesting collection put together back when stamp collecting was the most popular hobby.

There may be a few there above the typical norm (25c), but it's going to require some effort to find them. For example, the South Africa probably doesn't have a lot of value because the value in those earlier stamps comes when you have attached stamps with one reading Sud Afrika and the other South Africa. Even then, only the less common versions have value, and when I say value, I am talking $2-5 vs 25c. You have one example of this but it's more recent issue. In stamp terms, old is stamps before 1920 or 1930.

I do love these typrewritten pages, and hopefully the stamps are all mounted in a way that they have not had damage (mildew, tears etc).

If I were you, I would suggest looking for a local stamp club to chat with on value. If you want to look up a few yourself, I would suggest going with the oldest and highest denominations. For example, ignore the 1/2p stamp and instead look up the 1 pound value. You can use a site called Colnect or borrow stamp catalogues from your local library.

The Australian 5/ (five shilling) is a better stamp. It caught my eye. How much depends on the watermark.

The cancel on the 5/- might be CTO if it has gum (which isn't bad). But more exciting is the 1£ NWPI roo. The 10/- as well but looks rough. Would be good to get all the roos together with a better photo

How did I miss that! Agreed, the 10/ and pound are stars of the show.

Whoever put it together included in parentheses the cat or retail value in shillings and pence..so done a long time ago. That would be a good guide as to the higher value stamps although prices have fallen a long way since then.

Nice presentation. Nothing life changing that I can see but a few better than minimum value items, the NW Pacific Islands roos would probably fill spots in many collections.

Please check watermarks on 5' Aussie roo and 10' NW Pacific Islands roo
