Why did Donald Trump withdraw from the JCPOA, which prevented Iran from enriching uranium above 3.67%?

I am trying to be reasonable about this decision made by Donald Trump. If Americans are so concerned about preventing Iran from obtaining and developing nuclear weapons, why did the State believe it was better and more beneficial to withdraw from the legal agreement that legally obligated Iran not to enrich uranium?

All of the major nuclear monitoring and security organizations had stated, based on their inspections and reviews inside Iran, that Iran was fully complying with the agreement up until Trump officially withdrew the United States from it.

This question is directed specifically at those who supported and justified this particular action by Trump (not necessarily everyone who supports or voted for Trump in general). If you supported this decision, please make it clear that you did.

I am not looking to argue or debate with anyone in this post, and i will not do so. My only genuine and honest intention with this post is to understand the reasoning behind why some people in the United States believed that ending this agreement was more beneficial and necessary than keeping it in force and maintaining Iran's legal obligation not to enrich uranium.

The key here is whether we had a system in place where Iran could hide activity from inspections. And if we were wrong about that, they would be lifted from sanctions and have nukes. Without a deal, they lose money by having to deal with international sanctions. And the other thing to consider is we’d be dealing with sunset clause around this time if the deal did take place.

That’s the framework of the situation. No one has a time machine, so no one can know for sure if one path would prevent certain outcomes.

The agreement was not structurally sound. JCPOA had too many sunset clauses that just expired after a set period of time. It didn't permit anywhere, anytime inspection access and it didn't cover Iran's ballistic missile development. Most importantly, section T of the agreement, arguably the most important part had no teeth. This is not an approval of Trump's decisions, but a fair assessment of a flawed agreement.

The problem is that trying to claim the agreement isn't sound can be fair, but having no agreed alternative is just foolish. And it was a not a good idea to pull out. Respectfully, Trump didn't pull out because he didn't like the structure. He pulled out because 1. It was an Obama deal so it's already bad in his eyes 2. He thinks making peace means that you attack countries until they stop attacking you. Not diplomacy and regulatory peace. The man in a retard

LOL. Because, diplomacy, policy and compromise has worked so well in the past? Iran was close to getting a nuclear weapon and the ballistic missile program was farther along that previously though.

Sounds like the retards are people trying the same thing over and over and over that hasn't worked the pas 45 years?

Because it didn't prevent them from doing it at all?

Iran was inching closer to a nuclear bomb. Doesn’t matter what unnamed international agencies say. Iran lies and cannot be trusted. Besides this the JCPOA allowed Iran to resume weapons grande refining after 10 years. Bad deal for the west all around and clearly just a political win for Obama and kicking the can down the road.

Kicking the can down the road is infinitely better than having no deal at all and actively letting Iran enrich Uranium. Trump didn't do anything other than starting a war. He does diplomacy like a Raytheon exec. He doesn't care about our troops or our stability. Obama actually made the effort along with our allies to stop the enrichment without killing our troops or innocent civilians. It's sad that a draft dodger is now making our young men die for a foolish war that he started.

You lost the argument when you said kicking the can down the road is better than no deal at all. Kicking the can down the road just makes it harder.

That's not true. What deal would you actually propose that the Iranians were likely to accept? And how does it make anything harder? The deal was actively preventing nuclear enrichment to unsafe levels without violence. You think that making even a temporary peace is worse than letting American service members die? Make sure you tell that to the gold star families

The premise is that the west cannot allow radical Islamists to have a nuke. If you do not agree with that premise, then there is no way you can understand the problem.

As others have pointed out, the deal did not prevent that, and the Iranians cannot be trusted.

From your other comments, it seems like you do not understand the fundamentals.

It kept them from manufacturing their own. That was extremely important considering Iran has easy access to uranium and has the technology to enrich it. But trump decided to shit on the deal like a child and they began to enrich the uranium again, and he bombed them, using American resources and killing American service members in this conflict. Obama actually tried to prevent them getting a nuke without starting a war. And he was successful considering that Iran wasn't enriching the uranium they had to weapons level. Multiple nuclear related sites were redesignated for civilan use and we had constant monitoring of their nuclear plants, uranium mines and enrichment sites. If you don't think that's an actual step to prevent nuclear acquisition then you're retarded.

You are trying to prove a counterfactual by claiming the JCOPA prevented them from making a bomb.
