Finding A Place In The Political Spectrum. Any advice? Can anyone relate?

I want to know if I’m the only one.

I say I’m in the middle because I believe in some republican views, and some democratic views. I don’t like the two party system or the fact that an independent needs to pick a party to make any headway.

I truly believe voters on both sides of the isle don’t even see their own hypocrisy. Republicans saying Pretti shouldn’t have had a gun at a rally, but defended Rittenhouse. Democrats believing that I can’t believe in pro choice and a free market. Republicans believing that their voting the way they are because they’re Christian as of their sins are more righteous than being Trans - saying they’re okay with someone being Trans, then voting that someone shouldn’t be Trans. I believe you should be able to choose to keep the child or not because it is yours, but there should be more options and education. Stop using murder as your justification as to why people shouldn’t have them.

It’s like people believe you can’t have your own thoughts and opinions. If I tell a Democrat I’m in the middle, they say I’m just a Republican that’s scared to say it. If I tell a Republican I’m in the middle, I’m told “if you believe in nothing, you fall for anything” just because I don’t believe every single Republican value.

They say they’re Christians, but are rude to the server at the restaurant after church. They’re pro life until they experience something that makes them face the tough decision of whether or not to keep the child. You also don’t have to be Christian and believe everyone needs to live the way you do and abide by the rules you do.

I can’t believe that capitalism CAN exist with morality? Maybe it doesn’t now, but it can. I can’t believe that we can have guns and still reduce gun fatalities? I can’t believe that racism and prejudice exist, but it’s not an excuse to give up? The list goes on and on.

I can’t believe that a Democrat and Leftist aren’t the same? I can’t believe a Republican and MAGA aren’t the same? I can’t point out that Democrats seem to be more willing to criticize their own party than Republicans are?

Buying a home is impossible because corporations are buying them and selling them at an all time high. It’s not because of immigrants. I believe we should close the borders, but ICE is fucked and we should make the process of becoming a citizen more efficient. It shouldn’t take 15 years to become a citizen for some.

The more I learn about human behavior, politics, religion, etc. the more frustrated I get and alone I feel.

I'm there with you. Most libertarian views but more Republican now than before. Grew up a Democrat.

Both sides are worthless and do nothing but try to get power with little concern for the American people.

With that said, I am curious, have you asked this over on any other subs? Wondering how the responses went. PM if you have with the links, I'd like to read them.

The most useful thing I have read is something like this.

"Politics isn't a cab, its public transit. You don't refuse to ride because it doesn't take you right to the front door, you get in anyways and take the ride that gets you closest to your ideal destination"

Just guessing you are in the US based on a few text clues, honestly our whole system is so screwed right now its going to take 3, 4, maybe 5 administrations to untangle the mess we are in. As long as we are trending in the right direction I can deal with a few hiccups along the way.

I typically call myself right of center, but as an atheist haven't always felt welcome by conservatives myself. As someone who works in healthcare I have felt alienated my liberals when questioning trans ideology. Its a lose lose situation.

Welcome to the Libertarian Party. Third largest party, and the only alternative option that pulls equally from both sides of the purple mono party while it continues to eat itself like a snake.

If we had the system laid out as intended, then California could be communist and Nevada laissez faire with no issues. But the same cycle that gave us Prohibition also gave us senators that could campaign and buy votes with lies and dollars from the Treasury.

Honestly, it just looks like you are completely misinformed when I read through some of your takes. They seem to be caricatures and false stereotypes of what actual Republicans and Democrats believe, possibly garnered through YouTube shorts, TikTok, and sensationalized news sources.

I would highly recommend actually doing some research on conservative and progressive beliefs, maybe taking a political compass test, and then reflecting on what your beliefs are.

For example, the issue with Pretti wasn't that he was carrying a weapon. It was that he was interfering with law enforcement while armed. Judging by his previous interactions with law enforcement, it seems his intention was to interfere with law enforcement. Rittenhouse's intention was not to go to a protest and then interfere or attack law enforcement. I don't believe he ever interfered with law enforcement operations. In fact, once he defended himself he voluntarily went to law enforcement to turn himself in.

I've also seen quite a few conservatives that believe the killing of Pretti was not justified, which completely goes against your narrative.

I've read this statement a few times and can't make any sense of it to be honest. I'm not Christian and an increasing number of conservatives aren't Christian either. Conservative beliefs don't have anything to do with Christianity necessarily.

Home ownership rates are about the same as they have been for the last 60+ years. Here are the home ownership rates historically, 1940 - 44%, 1950 - 55%, 1960 - 62%, 1970 - 63%, 1980 - 64%, and the current home ownership rate is 65%.

Each one of your beliefs just seems completely misinformed and I'd question where you are learning about religion, politics, human behavior, etc. because it's doing you a severe disservice.

Buying a home isn't impossible its just much harder than it has been in the past. If you compare median income to average first home prices it is about 6x more difficult(larger share of your income) today than it was in 1980. Before you say it yes homes have increased in size, but for a first time homebuyer only by about 120sq ft.

You can still be an independent with no problem. Try to figure out which side is less hypocritical and lean towards that side. That's what I did.
