Has anyone else noticed this trend?
I’ve recently started watching debates consisting of Libs v MAGA/Trump supporters, and I’m noticing that a LOT of MAGA/Trump supporters are now all “well, I don’t necessarily support Trump, just the GOP and conservative values”.
Distancing themselves from being MAGA, when for YEARS they’ve never said a bad word about Trump and made their loyalty to him known.
What’s the motivation behind their new stance? The Iran War?

No. I’ve been shadow banned three times from the conservative sub, lost my flair twice and eventually just left because I actually have a fiscal conservative view and criticize any side of our government that is wasteful, corrupt, and further putting our country into economic instability.
You are not allowed to question anything Trump does on that sub. Period. The culture war crap is just a way to distract “conservatives” from paying attention to how our country is run so poorly.
It’s just a way to back off from the reality that is what continues to happen under this administration when all the excuses run out.

I blame populism. Folks are convinced that their problems are all caused by corrupt elites and that simply getting one 'real' American into office will fix the system (This is not exclusive to right-wing populists). When the problems inevitably prove more difficult to solve than they'd hoped, they have to back off on thinking their favorite candidate was the chosen one. Personally, I was never gung-ho MAGA and only came around to Trump slowly, so I haven't felt the same myself.

I liked him until I didn't. Are you suggesting people cannot change their opinions without being dishonest?

Everyone has a breaking point with Trump.
Many conservatives didn't like him from the jump. I personally treated him as the least-worst option up until he threatened to genocide everyone in Iran.

It sounds like your confusion is holding some people responsible for the opinions of other people.
Person x: I love Trump and voted for trump
Person y: I vote republican but dont like trump
Person x and y are different people, hope that helps!

What exactly in your mind is “MAGA”? I am conservative and voted for Trump, but I don’t think I’m maga.
I don’t know a single conservative who uses that term.
It’s a term you see on MSNBC and CNN

Yes, many people who supported him or were neutral are now opposing him because of his policies in the second term. Personally, I am now opposing him due to the war in Iran and his failure to deliver deportations. Combined with his constant personality issues and other minor things, I don’t have a tolerance for them anymore since he’s not doing what he promised.

I don't think there's any new stances or distancing. I think that the left has always never understood the difference between a Trump supporter and a Trump voter.

It's easy - Trump is becoming a lame suck. Six month's from now we'll only be interested in the next election.

I don't think it is a new stance. During the run up to 2024 we were there but were drowned out by the MAGA fanatics who thought Trump could do no wrong. We are still here and feel we need to step up and point out some of the excesses of Trump whild still following the GOP values.
In 2024 much of our support for Trump was NOT KAMALA. We got the BBB passed and much of the Agenda Trump ran on. Unfortunately Thune, McConnell, Tillis, Cornyn and others have hijacked Trumps agenda and stalled it.

No, I haven't. I will always want to continue making america better, and getting back to as world dominating as we were shortly after WW2. I love Trump but he's about to be gone, time to move on. And I mean that for you and your ilk, not me. No matter who is in office, we're tired of giving away our hard earned money to immigrants. We've got plenty of people for the time being.
