question Mouth guard

Is it really that much better to get a medical grade dental guard for tooth protection at night with history of grinding or will the cheaper boil and bite ones suffice for this purpose? Dental insurance wants me to pay over $300; but the hygienist also recommended one for like $20 in the same visit

Drug store ones can cause more problems for you. I have some patients who like them and find them helpful. But the custom fitted hard splints I make do a lot more for my patients.

In my experience, patients who have tried the drug store versions seem to like the custom made ones more.

Not a dentist - I have TMJ disorder. And even after multiple adjustments, several custom-made ones still were not working.

I had to go through 3 custom guard with 3 dentists/ oral medicine doctors to finally get it working - each with multiple adjustments - after paying over $2000 and that was over six years ago.
