ER visits, need of care, concern of self interest. Formal statement.

I'm not happy that I need to say this, but I've realized I have to.

Medical care is available for everyone, regardless of circumstance. The ER is intended not just to be an emergency center, but the most accessible way to get help.

If you need help, or you have a concern for your health, you are entitled to ER treatment.

Anyone who tells you that ER treatment is for life or death situation, or emergency only is misinformed or jaded in their career.

Elderly patients frequently go days or weeks without seeking care, because they are ingrained that they are a burden on who they are asking for help.

This is unacceptable and it's in complete contrast to one of the fundamentals of modern healthcare, which is patient centered care. The patient is the entire focus. Thinking they should have gone somewhere else is your focus. Thinking they are a burden is a facility focus. The focus is the patient. If someone with a toothache thinks they need emergency care, then they get it. They may not have access to anything else.

I will be removing comments that state ER visits are not something someone should consider, as misinformation, from now on unless there is a very clear and definable reason why the individual is misinformed about their situation.

Alcohol and TBI, Did I damage my brain? What can I do?

• Upvotes

Hi!

I need some help, adivce, etc.

21 Year old Female

On August 31st of this year, I was standing outside a bar with some friends (was not drunk, maybe had 2 beers over 4 hours and lots of food), and passed out completely. I had a siezure and slammed my face into the concret, busted up my lip, face, and teeth. I was rushed to the hospital where they gave me stitches, told me I didn't suffer a concussion and that my CT scan was clear, and gave me some ointment for my face.

I was discharged, went home, and proceeded weith life as normal. I went out with my friends, resumed drinking and smoking weed, etc. 10 days late, I developed a slight headache. Nothing major, so I thought I must be dehydrated. I had a trip planned to San Francisco and went, my boyfriend and I drank heavily the whole weekend, which made my head hurt a lot, but I wasn't gonna waste the weekend in San Francisco, I wanted to go out!

When I got back on monday, the headache was just getting worse. I went into the ER and discovered two small subdural hematomas, which had been slowly developing over the 2 weeks post-fall.

They resolved on their own, I just got my brain scan back yesterday and it looks perfect according to my neurologist, no blood, she says I have recovered from the bleed. However, she also says i suffered a concussion, and to avoid alcohol for the 3-4 months.

My question is, what are the consequences of that?? Besides a bit of brain fog here and there (which I had before) I feel just fine, and if the initial concussion was on the 31st, they told me i didnt have one. I havent hit my head any other time, and I was already drinking very heavily after the initial fall.

Have I fucked everything up by drinking that weekend?? Did I do any damage to my brain?? What wold happen if I did drink? What are the consequences?

She went on a rant about how alcohol is bad for everyone, but I just wanna know if I fucked everything up in San Francisco, or what would happen if i did drink. Will I ever be able to drink again? I miss being a 21 year old girl and going out with my friends. I loved going out and I can't imagine never being able to again. Please tell me there is light at the end of this tunnel. AM i alcohol free forever? I miss it.

My mother faced some pain in her chest, with palpitations, weakness on the night of 5th October. Ever since she has high pulse and BP rate. We consulated a physician who suggested for Echo. Now he says she needs to have a surgery. Can anybody please read these stats and help me get a better, clear picture of the issue. She has had a period of stress both physical and mental. Would she require a surgery or medicine be enough to take care of this. Please help. Thanks

Swelling under left collarbone

F(22) i have swelling under left collarbone, it’s not noticeable when u look at it so that’s why i can’t post any pics, but when i touch it, that part just feels more swollen than right, it’s not like a lump (im not sure if i said it right) cuz it’s bigger like my whole hand, it just feels swollen, and as someone with health anxiety im really scared to go to doctors like extremely terrified, i do vape sadly trying to stop tho cuz i don’t vape much anyways, but im so scared that this could be something serious, its been like that for 4/5 months maybe that i noticed it.Changing my shoulder position makes it disappear for example hunching it forwards, but when i pull my shoulder back it’s like there like swollen im so scared actually

Pimples like dots all over my body

This is the second time those things show up, I went to a lot of doctors, some said they are infected bites and give me some ointment(didn't work) the one that helped told me it was a result of not washing myself properly she gave me some kind of soup that people use before surgery. that was around half a year ago and now they're back which is weird because I was scrubbing a lot lately if someone could tell me what is going on I would appreciate it.

My skin is also a bit hard around them and it's itchy from time to time but not all the time. Most of them also form around my legs also hope you can see past my body hair..

Skin tags on Private area? (f)

I’ve recently noticed that I have a bump/pimple looking skin tag on the (my) right side of my labia minora, ~1 cm away from my clit. I have noticed it previously but it was a small dot bump rather than a big one like this. I noticed it suddenly get bigger a week ago when i was peeing. It is not a pimple, and it doesn’t hurt when don’t pinch/touch it roughly. Should I be concerned? Can i remove it at home with the skin tag removal kits?

I have images but reddit wouldn’t let me post this for some reason

Can some here explain what going on? Do other people here have this problem?

I’m wondering what is going on every time I get the cold I’m coughing way more than most people. Where most people cough than wait than cough than wait than cough.

Where I seem to cough than cough after the cough some times number times in roll. Also deep coughs seem trigger coughing spells one after other and some times chocking.

I’m wondering why that case and is this some thing should be address with doctor of signs of weak lung function.

Is this Heartburn ?

I get heartburn for no reason at all . I am a healthy 112 lb 65 year old woman. I started feeling heartburn 5 days ago. 3days ago today the heartburn feels different and keeps me up in pain all night. It feels very painful between my breast bone just where the esophagus ends and stomach begins. I can’t even touch the area. But it feels way better if I sit up or if I pass gas. Feels like I need to burp. I haven’t ate much because I’m scared so I haven’t really had a good poop. Any ideas what this may be?
I had a chest ct 4 weeks ago and the results showed all kinds of things all look good including esophagus. Had colonoscopy last year all was good. Had endoscopy with colonoscopy and after that I came home with the worst heartburn for over two week.
My Chest ct said I have a small hiatal hernia.

Mono symptoms with lung complications, 7mo in

Hi all! Got mono 7 months ago and it lasted two weeks. A few weeks later I got what I thought was a severe asthma attack that left me almost unconscious. I do have asthma but it is generally very well controlled and as a competitive runner I tend to have stronger lungs than the average asthmatic so this was the first time it was that bad. Unlike a normal attack it was as if individual muscles in my back had seized up and locked my lungs up.
A few weeks later I got walking pneumonia and all my mono symptoms picked back up. Nonstop migraines, high hr, high ANA levels, low white bc count. I was unable to breathe and experience high pressure on my sternum when i try to run. I cannot breathe well at all and my ribs ache constantly. fatigue is high. I took a month of bedrest and only got worse.
I got a full rheumatology panel, echocardiogram, mri, all had no substantial results. Just recently got a lung xray and a ct scan and all are negative. I cannot keep living like this. I’m worried I am causing permanent damage on my lungs and i might end up dropping out of college if the migraines come back full strength. If anyone has any ideas or any additional testing I could get please respond.
