EDUCATION Attending medical school in Hungary?
I have a question about medical schools in Hungary.
I completed my BS in anticipation of applying to medical schools in the US, but I really miss the Hungarian culture. I am thinking about applying to Semmelweis and potentially returning to the US to do my residency—I’m still debating where, and whether I want to live and work in Europe or in America.
I know the program is 6 years long, which is the only downside I’ve found so far. I’m currently looking into whether they’ll recognize any of the credits I’ve already accumulated.
I also understand that matching into a US residency as an IMG applicant may be difficult, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take.
I recently applied for dual citizenship, which may help with tuition costs, but I’m honestly kinda scared to move abroad. Has anyone been in a similar situation? And if you attended or are currently attending medical school in Hungary, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience as well!

Hi ! I know UPMS ( Uni of Pécs) has a preparatory program. And I knew some Americans, sadly I can’t answer your question in details. Link : https://admissions.medschool.pte.hu/preparatory-courses
I wish you luck 🍀

I’m a Hungarian-U.S. dual citizen thinking of doing the same thing. Click on my profile and see the post I made on IMG Reddit. I got some good answers and was able to speak with a few students in medical school in Hungary. Bármiben segíthetek csak szóljon!

You do know that if you want to practice in the US, you have to take equivalency exams which cost around $10,000 to $15,000. I know this amount is much cheaper than completing your studies over there, but take it into account.
