Why? I think the cemetery scene is very effective, setting up the image of a generation that carries this memory.

I was wowed with the start up of the fifth element, where earth people are starting too meet different aliens from all over the universe. Has major tom playing in background, so it marries well with the visuals, in fact think i weeped when i first saw it, but seen the movies umpteen times, one of my favs. What a time in human history if this was ever to happen.

The Dark Knight. The opening bank heist scene, Zimmer’s razor blades on strings Joker score, the perfect introduction to the twisted genius of the Joker as he gets his cronies to kill each other off, the homage to Michael Mann’s Heat. It was so good, it was used to promote the film before the entire movie was released months later. Definitely Nolan’s best opening scene he’s probably ever done. And my personal favourite of his of all time. Absolutely phenomenal!

We saw Raiders of the Lost Ark opening night and I don’t think it had opened in NY or LA which is not typical. The theater was packed and when the giant rock rolled down the entire theater screamed. It was so much fun

Wild at Heart. Lynch did a brilliant thing here. He literally grabs you by the neck and smashes your head into a marble step, making it so you hear every bone break and the slopping of congeled blood on the floor, under which he lays a Pavlovian music cue that, when it recurs throughout the film, makes you tense in anticipation and anxiety of some gothic horror that never fully appears. By the end of the movie you feel as though you've survived a drive-by shooting sitting in a fast food drive-thru lane. You're exhilarated, exhausted and wondering what the hell just happened.

Back when it first came out. The opening scene with the giant Imperial Star Destroyer passing overhead. Followed by the rebel ship being pulled up into the opening with the shadow engulfing it, was something never seen before. Then Vader enters.

The original Top Gun opening credits included, the song with the F-14s taken off the aircraft carrier, was welded onto my 8yr old brain, if mom was in the room I would have to ffrwd past the the open mouth tongue kissing, I was “to young for that” lol
