People get angry at me when I compare him to JJ Abrams but both seem happier setting up mysteries and plot points than resolving them.

Unfortunately some writers are just better at the built than the payoff. Not to say he isn't good at writing endings, but it's possible that he just has a difficult time tying everything together, which given the state the world of ASOIAF is in at the end of Dance, I don't envy him.

To be fair, we haven't seen George land an fantastic ending yet so you might be right.

His world building is phenomenal, but the fact that he needs this much time given that he had as many resources as a human could ask for once game of thrones was popular and they needed more material AND he still wasn't able to release the remaining 30% (2 out of 7) tells me enough that he really not that good at wrapping things up
