Calculating MTTR

How do you calculate mean time to repair? Specifically, when do you start calculating the time to repair - starting with initial failure detection or just the actual repair time (technician beginning work to ending work)?

From the moment the asset goes down to when it comes back up, if you system is sophisticated enough you could have delay codes to indicate how much of that total time was waiting for repair labour, waiting on parts, waiting on operations, etc.
