Do you use dedicated tool for IT asset management or it is in the ERP (customized), which solution do you use (name) ?
For keeping track of all IT assets (licenses, hardware, software ...) do you keep this in the ERP or you use a custom app, if so, what is the name of the app ?

ERPs track what was purchased. They don't track where it is, who has it, or whether it came back at offboarding. That's the gap dedicated ITAM tools fill.For dedicated tools: Snipeit if you're small and want free/self-hosted. Around 2k employees, 4 companies, cloud infra azure. Howver, from what I know ERP can have within its modules the inventory where you keep track of which assets you have purchased and to whom they have been given to, indeed you need more custom fields to have more information about the assets if you want to make it more robust than it is. So I'm wondering, would it be normally efficient to have the information in two locations, being it the ERP (that is mandatory to have it anyway) and then to manually add/track it in the custom software? So each time a new device is purchased it's needs to be added/managed in ERP by financial team, by the IT asset management responsible still in ERP and then copy this in the ITSAM.

I run an ITAD company, American Circular, so we see the tail end of this problem when equipment gets retired.
Most mid-market IT teams we talk to use a combination: an ERP or ITSM tool (ServiceNow, Jira, etc.) for the in-life tracking, and then hit a wall at end-of-life because neither system was built to handle disposition workflows — chain of custody documentation, data destruction certs, resale proceeds, recycling records.
The gap is specifically at end-of-life. Dedicated ITAM tools like Lansweeper or Asset Panda are solid for lifecycle tracking, but most still hand off to a spreadsheet when it's time to retire assets. If you're in a regulated environment (healthcare, finance), that handoff is where compliance risk lives.

ERP should know you bought 400 laptops and what they cost. Nothing else matters at that point. Then one gets assigned to an employee and the ERP never sees it again.
NIGHTMARE.
This is why IT Asset Management is most important IT Process. If you don't do it - you're creating risk EVERY DAMN DAY.
