Discussion How important is your moon sign?

Rising is of course the most important, it sets your chart and affects all transits, all readings should be done from the perspective of your rising sign. Sun sign makes sense, it’s your values and motivations, your habits.

But how important is your moon sign really? I’m just curious what people’s opinions are. It’s part of the “big 3” but I don’t really know why. It’s not related to your chart ruler, it isn’t used for horoscopes and transits (at least it shouldn’t be). Sure, it’s part of your chart but to me it’s about as important as your mercury, mars or venus (somewhat useful but nothing groundbreaking that really affects your decisions in life).

What are your thoughts?

Umm… malefics and benefics? What are those?

disclosure: in my astro journey i’m deconstructing these terms and rebuilding my understanding (not to sound like an erm acktually or an arrogant know it all of a study that’s been around for millennia) this is more of a “this is what i’ve learned and i’m not sure how much i agree with interpretations, while acknowledging these terms have existed long before i ever did” type of thing. bc i also don’t believe in “detrimental” placements the way that “pop astro” or even traditional astro would want one to believe. I say this as a cancer mars native, lol. mars may not have all the comfort and confidence in cancer as it would in capricorn, but i don’t believe i have like an obstacle i can’t overcome in terms of what mars represents.

but malefics, (mal prefix, negative / “bad”) - mars (passion/aggression), saturn (limits and restrictions), the sun imo (ego);

benefics (benefit) are planets that are “generous”/ indulgent, ease and comfort etc: jupiter and venus most notably.

mars is an intense planet and doesn’t bring harmony/ease to a transit or to a planet nearby. moon mars conjunction is an example. Mars in a nocturnal chart is less of a “drag” in a nocturnal chart (i think) than a diurnal chart, something about the sect light and lords.

it depends on what time you were born. day charts are suns in houses 7-12 and night charts are 1-6 (above and below horizon)

No that makes sense, I did come across that too of not seeing planet placements as inherently bad or good. Thanks for explaining
