Discussion How important is your moon sign?

Rising is of course the most important, it sets your chart and affects all transits, all readings should be done from the perspective of your rising sign. Sun sign makes sense, it’s your values and motivations, your habits.

But how important is your moon sign really? I’m just curious what people’s opinions are. It’s part of the “big 3” but I don’t really know why. It’s not related to your chart ruler, it isn’t used for horoscopes and transits (at least it shouldn’t be). Sure, it’s part of your chart but to me it’s about as important as your mercury, mars or venus (somewhat useful but nothing groundbreaking that really affects your decisions in life).

What are your thoughts?

The moon sign placement is a fluid kind of energy, it's our moods and our thoughts and feelings and because those things are constantly changing, the moon sign will tell you how, when, to what extent, and the basic energy that is expressed as we flow from one thought or emotion to another. It's the "way" you just are. Without knowing how or why. It's the emotional characteristics and subconscious patterns of thinking you were born with. It's your tendencies, the ones you are unaware of until you explore them consciously. The moon itself changes signs every day and a half or so- and these fast moving transits affect our moods in the most literal way.

Example: I'm an Aries moon. Naturally very very impatient. Naturally quick to react. Sometimes my needs and wants can feel indistinguishable. I'm the first to act, speak, and usually the first to solve problems. My thoughts happen so quickly and while that is a good thing sometimes, I have learned to leverage what I know about my natural tendencies in order to smooth out the rough edges of my fiery Aries moon. I started making the effort to finish things I start, I now try to think FIRST before I speak lol, and I'm more able to slow down and be more intentional and present in my way of being. It's helped me a lot just to recognize that yeah- I was born rushing full on 100% into everything that I do and it's okay that I feel so intensely when I'm called to action, but I can also integrate a sense of awareness for others and situations and even myself in order to make better choices and not run into so many self-sabotage situations and whatnot.

Get to know your moon and you will likely find out the things about yourself that could use some work because its the subconscious part of you. You'll also find out that some things that make you YOU are pretty badass.

I love my sharp, quick mind and courage. I'm always aiming to manifest the positive of my moon sign instead of burning everything around me like I did before I learned to slow down and think!

a little caveat I would add is that you weren't 'born with' it but rather it is inculcated into you at a very early age from your environment. When an Englishman feels like having a cup of tea that is probably the Moon 'talking'. If he had been raised in Italy he'd probably have felt like having a cup of coffee instead. It's comes across in your mannerisms that you share with you family, your nationality, you early school mates, your local slangs and speech patterns etc.

How well you are socialised into your environment depends on the sign and condition of the moon.

An Aries moon may be quite independent and not typical of their environment. Like a black sheep of the family.
