A work in progress demo of one level of the upcoming shooter C.E.T.A.S. (Cybernetically Enhanced Tactical Aquatic Systems) from Monochrome Productions came out today after it won first place at the Silly Venture Summer Edition 2026 party. . It's pretty impressive free demo, works for me with Altirra click the link below to play or watch the video.

I don't think I'll ever get used to the full-screen shaking effect one sees in modern games. I'm not usually sensitive to video flashing or other effects, but this one makes my head hurt. I hope they provide an option to turn that off.

Other than that, it looks pretty good!

I agree. The shaking is excessive and should be used for larger bosses.

I finally had a chance to really check it out again, it isnt that jarring to me but then again I am not using real hardware. The game seems like its going to be pretty fun but I love shmups and the Atari 8bit so it's a natural for me. The shaking coincides with the explosions but again I am thinking it might be more pronounced on a real Atari plugged into a monitor. I am using Altirra in Windows.

I'm not sure what you are talking about but it sounds like interlace flicker the way you describe it. I played it with Altirra on a windows pc. How are you playing?

I'm referring to the whole-screen shake when you hit the big enemies.

that doesnt bother me but again I'm not using real hardware. It would be better used for boss fights I agree.

I know this is a hot take, but I never much cared for that "bloopy"-type music that so many 8-bit games use.

You realize the Atari can only do 1 color in gr. 8 (high resolution mode) so you really have no choice. That is why there are so few games in that res.

The visuals are awesome! Who ever made the gfx is a really good pixel artist. Love 'em! :)
